The truck has 129k miles on it and for the past 15k miles or so it has started shifting very hard from 1-2 and very hard down from 3-2. Feels like I am getting rear ended by a Fiat hard. This makes stop and go Austin traffic miserable.

I can sometimes make it shift smoother by giving it more throttle prior to the shift from 1-2. The hardness of the down shift from 3-2 depends on speed.

My diesel bro shop says its needs a trans at a cost of around $7000. A local neighborhood shop in SA quoted me the same. Both shops stating that they would be installing a new transmission from Ford and that no one rebuilds them yet. Is this correct?

I first took it to the diesel shop thinking it was a tuning issue from the mild tune they did after the deletes. They put it back to stock and told me it made the shfiting worse. I did not verify how worse. They re-tuned it and still shifting as described.

Could it possible be something else like a valve body or TC?

If no one is rebuilding them, I might be looking for a trans from a salvage truck.

have you ever been to the dealership for it? there was a reflash for hard transmission shifts at some point.

FWIW... Had a '00 Silverado 2500 that started doing something similar back in 03/ at 75000. Factory rebuild transmission for $3000, factory warranty 36mo/36000. Having the dealer rebuild it was cheaper, but only 12mo/12000 iirc. I'd check with a dealer, cause I don't believe that they aren't rebuilding those yet.

Also, I just talked to my friend at the Truck Shop at tommie vaughn and they have been rebuilding these since 2011. So your brah shop probably has no idea what they're doing.

There are rebuild kits readily available out there so I imagine they're replacing because they dont have a professional trans mechanic to mess with it.

Changed at 105k along with the t-case.

Any shops you might reccomend in the Austin area? Talked to a guy at Eagle Transmission the other day and might have them look at it later this week.

Did they use the right fluid?

I used LV

The motor was replaced at 107k and I don't think they touched the trans then.

Flywheel and starter were changed around 110-115k. Mmm, forgot about that. Maybe wrong fluid put in at this point, but I'm not sure potentially wrong fluid is causing this type of issue?
