Lexus, L-X, fo' and a half....has a little more cachet.

probably. a lot of the people with the Lexus don't honestly know what they have.

I would say a significant portion of people wouldn't buy the Lexus. I know when I bought my Cruiser (pour one out) I had a dealer try to get me in a Lexus instead and I just wasn't interested. But it also depends on the market, are we talking off roaders or soccer moms.

It's harder to find an LX450 with the center diff lock

Used parts are harder to find on the Lexus that are not shared with the Land Cruiser.

Mechanically they are identical.

Collectors prefer the Land Cruiser

I doubt you are going to get a discount for the lexus not having the land cruiser name. They are the same where it matters. Other than the early years they both had leather, so you are only buying different trim molding, wheels and a badge.

If I found a deal on LX450 I would have no problem getting it.

Corps_Ag12: they all have center diff locks, just whether or not they have button in place to activate it independent of the transfer case position.

I want to make it an off-roader. The one I'm looking at doesn't have any diff locks but I could buy the ARB ones if need be.

With that said, I also would potentially sell it in a couple years and I wanted to know whether or not the fact that it wasn't an actual Land Cruiser would affect the resale value, as the 80s are spiking right now.

Gotcha, I was under the impression that without the button they didn't have them.

Only folks new to the FZJ80s or cruisers in general wont make the connection between the toyota and lexus version.

People list the 450's as cruisers on craigslist all the time. You might a have few less people interested when it comes time to re-sell, but I dont think it should change your asking price.

LX450 has more sound deadening, softer suspension (if still stock) and a little more wood trim and different radio in dash, I think. Different body paneling I think as well. Otherwise mechanically identical.

FZJ80 = 80 with the 1FZ 4.5L I6 93-97 in the USA

More or less. I think some 93's and even some 94's may have semi floating axles and drum brakes. Definitely by 95 they were all up to date.

They limited that to cars with the special sticker, and they run out of spots if you don't get there early

I passed up on the LX450. My land cruiser mechanic said they're not as desirable as a land cruiser and that they're pretty difficult to resell. Apparently LCs are worth a lot more even though it's pretty much the same vehicle.
