My family has owned Land Cruisers since I was a little kid. I drove a 79 FJ40 for ten years before buying a VW Golf. I put down 4k on the Golf and still owe about 8k. I'm thinking about selling it and getting this FJ80 for $9500.

What would this process look like? Is this an extremely unwise financial decision?

Not sure I would have my FZJ80 if it was my only car. But if you got one in the 10K range it would probably be in better condition and lower miles than mine.

Whats your commute like?

If the FJ80 is a daily driver your cost of ownership may go way up. 12 mpg plus old parts needed maintenance repair and they are expensive.

But an FJ80 is so much more interesting than a Golf, go for it. Could you swing both at once? I have an FJ80 I drive on weekends and once a week to work, don't put many miles on it and I have a sedan for most commuting and longer trips.

My commute to work is only a couple miles here in Houston, but I often drive back to Dallas on the weekends and will be moving back there in six months.

I could swing both at once, but I already have an FJ40 in addition to the Golf. It's hard for me to justify have three vehicles at the age of 26 haha.

The Golf is probably worth about 11k, just guessing though.

No link because I don't want anyone else to scoop it up!

Don't sell yourself short, I'm 27 and have three cars not including the wife's. The insurance is starting to become a hurdle though.

So what is the FJ40 missing that 80 takes care of? I have a DD, the cruiser, and a 240 to street/track. None of them really overlap. I am not trying to force my choices on you, only want you think about what you're trying to accomplish.

I'm not really sure what the 80 takes care of that the 40 doesn't, I just really want one.
