Skip it. Just put some radiator stop leak in and drive straight to a dealer and trade it in.
Funny but I almost did this. However, the stop leak bottle is still in the garage.

Oh, I left a visit off!

The 335i has twin turbos. The coolant goes through the oil filter tower. This was visit 2.5. We think (they think) that oil from the tower managed to get into the coolant system thus degrading the hoses.

Total damage was about $2,800.

As for DIY, I'll attempt, and enjoy, working on any of my other vehicles. The BMW, no freak'n way. Too many special fitments, tools, and other stuff required. Worse yet, they tend to throw up error codes in series, that is problem A identified (fix A), problem B now identified (fix B), problem C now identified (fix C), ...

I won't own a BMW until I'm better friends with one of my coworkers who's significant other is a BMW mechanic.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone purchased a BMW extended warranty after the initial warranty has expired? What kind of cash are we talking here? I usually NEVER buy extended warranties on anything, but now that I'm at 50k+2k and am OOP $1000 for a repair, I'm rethinking that rule.
