Anyone heard of this? They just launched in Austin.

After requesting a pickup on the Buddytruk app, your driver will arrive at your pickup location and help you haul your item(s) to a specified drop-off location. Our drivers are not only there to transport your items, but they help you load and unload your items. We do it with you, because moving is always better with a buddy!
quote:
The Buddytruk app is completely cashless, making it easy-to-use and hassle-free. Simply add your payment info to your profile, and your card will automatically be charged once you submit your payment. The algorithm that calculates the transaction cost is based on distance and time. The time component is $1.00/min. However, as the transaction goes on, this price decrease. The distance component is $1.00/mile. A short or quick transaction won't be expensive, but an hour-long transaction could average between $60-70.

The Buddytruk app was designed for on-demand hauling and moving of your items, not yourself. Therefore, this is exactly what our insurance coverage for
you is geared toward. Any driver who transports a user during the transaction,
is doing so completely under their own personal insurance and liability. This is
not a service that Buddytruk provides. This breaches your agreement with
Buddytruk. Please use your best judgment and proceed with caution before getting
in the vehicle with another person.

Seems clever and useful.

A slight derail does anyone know if you were a driver in this scenario hauling loads for hire under the 26,000# cdl req whether it would still be "commercial" and require a commercial liscense?

I'm studying to get my CDL right now and I think as long as it's not hazmat you wouldn't need a Class C CDL. DOT may be a different story, I don't really know the requirements on that. Also, there is no such thing as a chauffeur license in Texas, unless you carry more than 16 passengers, then you need a CDL with passenger endorsement.

Those drivers had better check their insurance because i bet it doesn't cover this.

If it's anything like Uber, the company insurance covers you while you are on a job. I.e. When you accept the ride and load up, you are under their umbrella until you end the ride and unload.
