Recently I experienced some knocking noises when opening the sunroof on my 2011 Ford F150. Upon further inspection the following pieces were completely loose on the left and right sides of the sunroof.

I've attempted to locate a good diagram of the sunroof on the internet to see if these specific replacement parts are available. No luck. The dealership will more than likely charge an arm and a leg for repair even though the pickup only has 30,000 miles on it (yes, I realize I am out of the 36 month warranty period). Any suggestions on replacement parts or a repair shop in the Dallas area?

Take it to the dealer and claim the warranty and see what they say. Don't just assume....

ASC is the OEM supplier for the roof.

Call them and ask for parts info.

Local trim shops may be able to help but yes, I would say see if the dealer is willing to do a good will repair.

Not sure about the dealer route as I am the second owner. If I recall correctly the factory warranty transfers but how do I work this angle?

Tommie Vaughn wanted ~$2200 to fix the sunroof on my 2011 Expedition. I got it fixed by The Sunroof King in Houston for $1200.

HAd to have the tracks of the sunroof replaced on the wife's gen coupe. They replaced the whole sunroof assembly. Had the car for a week. Said id was int eh 1200 - 1400 range if we had paid. Extended Warranty covered it.

After my recent run of repairs, I have used the hell out of my extended warranties.

Do I have a leg to stand on trying the goodwill repair angle being the second owner?

I don't think the 3/36 belongs to the first owner only, I think it follows the vehicle.

I have a 2013 F-150 and within two months after purchasing, the sunroof malfunctioned. Would not close after opening so I took it to the dealership and they informed me that there was a defect in that year model. Not sure if the 2011 is also defective but I would look into it.

Called Ford Motor Co and opened a case. Dropping it off at Grand Prairie Ford next week for diagnostic. I let them know under no circumstances are they allowed to remove the headliner as the damaged parts are clearly visible without removing parts. If anyone has Ford contacts that might be able to help with this issue Id sure appreciate the chance to visit with them.

They're gonna have to drop the headliner. I think thats unreasonable that you're asking them to not drop it.

The two pieces that broke off are from locations that can be seen under normal operating conditions. It is not something that needs to be broken down to diagnose but they have to see it in person to make a recommendation (full sunroof unit replacement). I don't think that is an unreasonable request. I wouldn't expect them to take the entire door off of the vehicle to determine that the visibly broken door handle is the reason a door can't by opened.

Sunroof is not working on 2013 F-150. I am the 2nd owner of this truck. Dealership wants $2300 and said the whole frame assembly needs to be replaced. I am fairly handy, but this isn't something I want to try to fix myself.
I checked out reviews on Sunroof King and they ones posted are very bad....as in a number of them said the owner is a liar and a thief. Saw them listed on this thread and thought I would ask if anyone knows of place that I can take my truck to get the sunroof fixed....

edit: I am in Houston

I ended up buying a sunroof kit off of the internet and had a local collision body shop handle the repair. Obviously, this was back in 2015. I believe the website was sun roof doctor and the kit was around $100 or so. The shop charged around $100-$150 for labor. No issues since then.

The sunroof in my 2007 F150 quit on me. From what I understand there are two things that give you problems with the sunroof. Either the plastic arms break/alignment slips or the motor assembly pukes. The plastic arms are pretty easy and cheap to fix. The motor assembly is basically removing the entire sunroof assembly and replacing. My 2007 was the motor assembly for $1500 +/-. I said "NO THANKS" - got the glass in the fixed position, pinned in place and disconnected the switch. Could still pull the sunshade and "see" outside, just couldn't open the glass. Had it that way for 4-5 years before I sold the truck. No leaks. No noise.

Moral of the story - just don't get a vehicle (car/truck/SUV) with a sunroof. It's a lottery ticket that usually loses...

I had the dealer close the sunroof and I am going to pick up the truck. I can live with it not opening. It would be nice to just disconnect the switch though. Do you recall how you did that? I have 3 boys that I can envision trying to push the open buttons, so having it dead would be ideal.

Thanks for the replies so far.

On my 2007 the switch was in the headliner/by rearview mirror with the overhead lights. The switch housing/assembly popped out - simply disconnected the wiring harness from the switch. Also pulled the fuse. Figured two different checks to keep someone from getting stupid on it....

If you go that route remember that there are two buttons that control the sunroof; slide and tilt.
