We bought our 2012 Camry used so I'm about to do our second oil change on it. The first was 5,000 miles ago and it cost a fortune at Jiffy Lube because of the 0W-20 oil so I'm going to do it myself this time. My question is can I wait longer than 5,000 miles with that type of oil? I've read some stuff online that says you can go as long as 10,000 miles. The maintenance minder llight (not check engine ligiht) came on the other day but I'm guessing that's set to interval mileage and not sensors detecting the condition of the oil right? I checked the oil tonight and it looks full and good. Would yall change it now or wait longer?

Change it every 5k miles. My wife has a '08 camry. Very easy DIY on hers, maybe takes me 30 min total. It costs about $30 or so to do myself and that includes full synthetic plus peace of mind that it was done right. Toyota does claim 10k miles but that is up to you. Every 5k is still much cheaper than a new engine down the road.

I probably won't let it go the full 10,000 miles. Maybe another 1 or 2,000. I just don't have time to do it for a couple of weeks most likely unitl after Thanksgiving.

I will try and bump a thread where I recently talked exhaustively about Toyota oil.

Long story short: Toyota recently switched to a very special blend of synthetic 0W-20. IF YOU USE THE TOYOTA SYNTHETIC 0W-20, YOU CAN GO 10k miles.

Let me see if I can find the thread.

You should change your oil every 3000 miles because someone's granddad did it that way and it is cheap insurance.

NOT.

The best advice is to do what the owners manual says.

You could take a sample of the oil and send it to Blackstone Labs to have them analyze it and tell you how much longer you can go on that oil change. They can also tell you more about the condition of your engine. $25

Follow the manual.

The 0W20 recommended engine oil is full synthetic, which is why they say 10,000 miles.

If you want to cheap out, then fill with regular 5W20 and change it every 6000-7000 miles.

Actually thats probably what I would do if it were my car.

Whats a dealer charge for a 0W20 oil change?

I thought about going DIY but my sienna is about $50-60 at Don McGill in Katy. For 7 quarts it's hard to justify not using the dealer.

Dang.. The Subaru dealership is $70 for 5.3 quarts. That's why I lol'd at them and DIY it for $32. I also drive a lot so it adds up.

Yeah for me its my wife's daily driver

I'll eat the $15 twice a year and let someone else do it.

In your case it makes sense though.
