Black holes exist. Wife took her ring off inside our house and it flew out of her hand (saw it in the corner of my eye). Tore the room and adjacent rooms apart...it was never found. State Farm paid out the insurance, surprisingly with almost no questions, and we got a new (and better) ring.

If you were closer, I'd attempt to find it and all I'd ask in return is for you to TalkDirty2Me.

What does Ferrous Bueller have to do with anything?

I have found through experience that flipping your car helps you find lots of things that you lost through the years in the black hole.

Don't you know? He has the day off. He could help look for the ring.

If insurance paid, it meant that you had scheduled or blanket scheduled your item.

Just losing a piece of jewelry is normally not covered.

Yeah, it was a personal article policy, not our standard homeowners. Still, it was cheap and the fact they didn't blink when we admitted we lost it in plain sight was amazing. Insurance fraud seems too easy if one were inclined.

Can I buy your sofa? I've got $5 that if you disassembled it that you would find your ring.

Heh, it was checked pretty thoroughly (and we actually did sell it on texags when we moved, maybe they won the lottery). As were the drains, took apart some cabinets, checked dog poop for a week in case the dog managed to eat it (even though the dog never ate non-food objects). We even purchased a metal detector.

It was probably lodged deep in there where you couldn't reach. I would have had someone disassemble it.

We have had sofas and chairs reupholstered before and there has been all kinds of coins and jewelry found in them. Every time before dropping them off we had thoroughly checked for anything else that was possibly left behind. Some was ours and some was from whoever we had purchased them from.

I wonder how much gets lost every year like this. I'm sure it has to be quite a few million.

I would have also pulled up the carpet. I have found lost items there when I replaced my carpet with wood floors. Some things you would have sworn would not have fit.

Must be missing something but why can't you get a magnetic tool that scopes like a radio antenna and put it down the same way the ring fell. It should grab the ring and pull it up. You can get one at Sears, Lowes, HD, or just about any place that sells tools of any kind.

Yep, you are....

Read the rest of the thread. Gold is not ferrous and is not attracted to a magnet.

Gold isn't ferrous, a magnet won't grab it.

I dropped a key once in that same spot and could not find it no matter how hard I looked. I popped off the cap behind the track that's visible from the back seat and there it was. Still not sure how it maneuvered into there.

I lost my ring when we went to Ole Miss a few years ago. Tore apart the RV looking for it and scoured the RV parking lot for hours. When we got back to Houston, we further tore into the TV, but it was lost. When I returned the RV I told them and they stated that they'd put their honest cleaning crew on it, so hopefully I'd get it back.

Was a big black cloud hanging over my entire weekend.

When I got back to my house, I tossed my backpack on the floor and heard a recognizable *clink*. After a few beers and before a parking lot football game on Thursday night I'd put it in the backpack for safe keeping and forgot about it.

oops.
