Have to agree with the no-4WD folks. I didn't buy a 4WD until about 2000, and I grew up on 3 miles of dirt road. Only reason I went 4WD was the need to get to a field regardless of weather. Driving in mud and snow is more technique than equipment.

Regarding ice and snow: South of the Red River, I doubt I'd buy 4WD. South of the Brazos, no. Remember, 4WD is no magic bullet for ice, though it helps with snow. And it doesn't do squat for stopping.

What about east of the Brazos

Heck I'm even thinking of getting a wench because...well I want one.

I want one too, but wenches aren't cheap.

I won't even consider a truck unless it's 4x4. I've had trucks my whole life and I can tell you I've never wished I didn't have 4wd.

Better to have a different not need than need and not have.

Haven't you guys seen the Viagra commercial where the guy gets his 2WD truck stuck in the mud? He didn't need 4WD to get out. Heck he didn't even need ATs or MTs. He needed only his confidence, his problem solving skills and horses tied to the front end.

So.... 2WD=Stuck but 2WD+Horses+Viagra=Unstuck! No need for 4WD here!

But seriously, besides a Lightning or SRT-10, 4WD for me.

For you and most people (where its not a necessity), it's about personal preference and mines based on 4WD's looks, capability, and simple ease of mind.

Or any LS powered truck for that matter

Actually I have seen that commercial.

1) You have to be a damned fool to get stuck in that small of a mudhole.
2) Take the horses out of the trailer, your trailer now weighs about a ton less. Drive out of the mudhole.
3) It IS a 4WD pickup. You can clearly see the front differential pumpkin in some of the shots. I guess the guy was too busy thinking about getting laid to simply shift into 4WD.

Next, we rip to shreds the guy who pulls into a gas station in his overheating camaro, doesn't bother to see why it is overheating, buys bottled water to put in the radiator when a hose would do, puts cold water into a hot engine (cracking the heads) and then drives away oblivious.

Apparently once your peen no longer functions, you have more time to focus your energy on "getting things done"...

Have you ever found that this isn't the case? I know I'm more productive and effective when my blood flow isn't diverted.

I thought that one of the benefits of reaching that age was finally being able to think straight.

If you're saying that eventually you reach a certain age where you stop thinking about getting laid....

I don't know what that age is, but I'll just say "older than me".

And me Canyon Ag77!

I drive 4x4 and use it pretty often in different places and times. Could I get by without it yeah, do I want to no. The secrete to not getting stuck with 4x4 is to put it in before you leave the hard road. Can you still get stuck, yes, but not near as often.
Through my 60+ years I suppose a hovercraft would be hard to stick, but I have succeeded in sticking just about every type vehicle known to man. Trucks ,tractors, backhoes, dozers, skidsteers, Rangers hell I cant think of anything else right now but there are probably some more. So nothing is perfect, but if you put 4x4 in before leaving the hard road you lessen greatly your chance of getting stuck.
