I am looking at purchasing a truck from a dealership in Oklahoma.

Does anyone know how paying sales taxes works? Do I pay taxes in OK? Do I pay taxes in Texas when I register the truck?

More than likely you will pay taxes yourself in Texas when you go to register it.

sometimes lenders require dealers to do the title work even on an out of state deal so they can make sure to record the lien right.

it will be Texas taxes either way.

You might have to pay the Okl tax and then get credit for it when registering in Texas.

They will account for texas taxes in the sale.

I did this last year. When you go register the vehicle in Texas you pay the taxes then.

Matsui, just curious. Did you drive the vehicle off of the dealership's lot and if so, do you know why it (the dealership) did not charge you the applicable state tax?

You pay the tax when registering. The dealer only collects the tax because they are typically handling the new car registration for you as a convenience. When purchasing from out of state, they don't register the vehicle, therefore they don't collect tax. They should give you a thirty day tag and wish you luck.

Disclaimer... I've never done this involving Oklahoma, so they could have some goofy rules I don't know of.
