So I figured I would go ahead and share one of my Vehicles with the Automotive board that I have been working on this Football Offseason.
First for this disclaimer: This Vehicle is dedicated to Tailgating and tailgating only. It serves no other purpose but to look cool and drink beer around/transport supplies/party on. No it is not the most practical vehicle for these purposes but it is unique and fun.
On to the story, about a year ago my wife and I decided that we would start looking for a unique vehicle to Tailgate with. We love Aggie Football and Tailgating is a passion of ours. We had seen school bus's and trailers and enjoyed many a friend's rig but wanted something out of the ordinary. About midway through last season after combing forums, websites, ebay and craigslist, a deal popped up that we thought we could make work. A local guy on craigslist had a recently decommissioned 1982 GMC/Pierce Pumper Truck for sale with 32K miles on it for a price I could barely buy a regular pick up truck for. We talked it over and I gave the guy a call. Everything on the truck worked, and it seemed like a steal so we bought it up. First game of use was Nebraska of last year and during this game is when I discovered that my idea was none to unique when I stumbled upon another Firetruck located on the West Side of Reed Arena. After meeting that crew I knew we could only hope to be as cordial and welcoming at our tailgate as they are at theirs.
Well the Nebraska win came and we drove her back to Dallas. I blew a radiator hose on the return trip but nothing a quick trip to NAPA and a pocket knife couldn't fix. We took her as was to the Cotton Bowl for a little partying and upon the loss the Fire Truck had had enough and the Starter went out on me. At this point the build process began. I replaced the Starter, Battery Selector switch, and ran all new fuel lines and filters to get the thing running in tip top shape again. I then started on the exterior design and idea for a theme. I contacted a Skinzwraps here in Dallas and they did a bang up job turning the the big girl Maroon. And that leads us to now, an almost finished project. We still have Stereo and some body work to go but be on the lookout this next football season in lot 97 for The 12th Man Fire Co. and stop by for a cold drink.
Sorry for the cliff notes explanation of a build thread, I will try to tell most of the story with Pictures below. If they don't embed due to my rookie status, will someone please embed them for me in a follow up post. Thanks!
