Ive got a 2005 Chevy SilveradoZ71 crew cab (90k miles). Hail damage on the hood will require replacement. There is also hail plus paint damageon the roof. There are also minor dents on both sides of the vehicle (maybe 10 small dents that are difficult to see). The adjuster looked at it yesterday, but I would like to have an idea of what to expect when I call today or tomorrow to ask how much cash I will get out of this. I plan to just replace the hood so I am curious how much extra they will be giving me.

They usually charge about $500 per panel to pop them out...if they can pop them out.

I just got a quote for my 2008 GMC and it was 2600 total.

How bad was your damage?

We had golf ball size hail for about ten minutes. From ten feet you probably can't spot any damage but up close you can definitely tell. 241 spots on the hood alone (needs replacement) as well as the roof and side rails.

I am having my windshield, hood, and roof replaced on my 04 GMC extended cab. That plus paintless dent removal on every other body panel be the tailgate came out to about 3k.

Expect a supplement after you take it in. In almost all cases that I have seen it takes more than originally quoted to fix hail damage. In some cases, were talking 2-3x as much.

got a check for $3k. I think I am just going to get a new hood. Any idea how much that will run me on a 2005 Chevy Silverado?

My advice would be to call around to some junk yards and try to find a truck with an undamaged hood of the same color. Save yourself a TON of money. If you do this it should only run you 200-350 ish for a hood in decent shape. Also try craigslist. If you actually have to paint a hood then the price generally jumps up a fair bit.

I had a similar thing happen with my pickup. While taking my time looking for a replacement hood the summer heat actually popped out most of my dents and the only ones that are left are not noticeable at 10+ feet.

Tag,

Thanks for the advice. Given it has 90k+ miles, I may just skip replacing altogether or at least wait until I am about to sell it. If I get hailed on again, will I get another hail damage reimbursement from my insurance company? I guess I doubt it but I am curious.

If you file a claim on it and don't fix it, most insurance companies are going to pay for additional damage to the same panel.

Did you mean "are not" or did you mean that insurance companies double pay for the same panel?

Take it to a paintless dent repair place.
