Anyone using a Q5 as a baby-hauler?

Wondering how the car-seat (rear-facing) and all the junk fits in the cargo area.

Have a 6 month old and a Q5. Rear facing child seat fits fine in the middle. I can lay the passenger side rear seat down for extra room with the car seat in place. Picked up a Thule cargo carrier for visiting relatives this Christmas because we had to bring our 2 dogs and a ton of baby presents back. It works good for the few times a year we need extra space. Had the car almost 1 1/2 years now and managed to fit all my crap in it.

Ummm...that might be the most helpful response I've ever gotten on TexAgs.

Thanks!

I assume that putting the carseat in one of the outboard positions isn't ideal? Based on where it will be in the garage, I'd prefer to have it on the driver's side.

true statement.

Finding a Q5 is a different story. There ZERO, that's Z-E-R-O Q5s on showrooms in the Houston area.

For child safety in side impact collisions you are supposed to put it in the middle if you only have one car seat. It is possible to put it behind the drivers seat in a Q5 but you might have to move the drivers seat a few inches forward to make room. Depending on the size of your car seat and how far you keep your seat back there may or may not be enough space. You can see in my pic I'd have to move my seat forward just a bit to clear the car seat. I'm not sure if the rear seat is moved all the way back in that pic as it also has a few inches of movement.

Also the Latch system on the Q5 is very easy to attach car seats to. Much easier to access than the one in my wife's Camry.

are you using the latch system in the middle seat?

Yeah I got lucky getting mine. When I heard the 2010's were getting released from port a few weeks early I went straight to the dealership. They just happened to have the exact color and feature package coming in that first delivery that I wanted.

We have our search narrowed down to a few SUVs, with the Q5 being the smallest. There are some incentives on the Q5, but mostly on the others we are looking at that expire at the end of the year.

I'd like for my wife to be able to at least SEE a Q5 before we make a decision.

Is the Q5 your primary vehicle or your wife's?

Yes, using the latch system in the middle seat. The anchors are designed for use on the outside seats. I've seen places say that is something not to do so I wouldn't recommend it, but I looked at the distance the latches are apart and the car seat width and the angles are close to the same putting it in either location.

West Houston Audi usually has 1-2 Q5's there when I go for service. If you can't find one at a dealership I'm in NW Houston. Managed to put 28k on it in the last 1 1/2 years and don't clean it too often so you can get a good idea how they wear.

The Q5 is my primary vehicle.
