ok i found somewhere that says the ground clearance is 8.1 inches (adjustable to 9.4 with air suspension). is that a good number compared to most cars?

Hell, my TBSS probably sits lower than that.

You should be fine. Just don't try to Starsky and Hutch those bumps and you're golden.

I have a hard time believing the 350Z has 8.1 inches of ground clearance. That is a lot for a sports car. My NSX ground clearance is closer to 5.5 inches. It is low enough that I had to buy a floor jack that would go low enough.

My biggest problem with clearance is the chin spoiler. Not a problem with speed bumps but parking garage ramps are often a challenge.

i dont know if this is a reliable site but it was the only place where i could find some numbers:

i kinda agree with you that it does sound a bit off...

I bought a 2008 Z exactly one week ago. After I saw this thread I went down with a tape measure and there is exactly 5.5 inches of ground clearance from the lowest point of my grill. Fyi.

Obviously the site our xbox fan found is NOT reliable.

ac, I can't imagine that a Corvette would have more than 5 inches of clearance. Do you ever have problems going over speed bumps or coming out of steep drive-ways/parking lots?

I've rubbed 3 parking curbs so far and every time it has made my stomach turn. There was no damage at all but now I am being even more anal about the way I park and pay extra attention to situations I think might scrape the bottom.

A funny story and a testament to my lack of experience/knowledge of cars- Last Wednesday I picked the car up from Dallas and drove it to Houston. When I picked the car up it had been backed into the parking spot and I just drove it straight to my garage. The next morning I get in and can’t put the thing in Reverse! There are 6 forward gears all across from each other and R is all the way to the right and down but it won’t go. I figure, I’m an intelligent guy, I can figure this out. 15 minutes later I call the dealership and he says “oh, you have to push the knob down then go over.”

God I felt like a jackass.

Fun car though. Can’t wait till it’s broken in. 600 miles to go!

I won't lower my car because I like to park in garages when I can. The chin spoiler on the NSX is an unpainted (black) replaceable part but even at stock ride height it will scrape occasionally in parking garages or on parking lot stops. 5 inches of ground clearance is low enough.

Funny story Tex,

6speeds are different. Some, you have a ring around the stick you have to pull up before you can go into R, others, a little button, etc.

Now, I'm going to have to measure my ride height in my TBSS. I know I'm about 1.25"/2" lower front/ rear than a normal SS, which is already about an inch lower than a normal TB.

I know I've scraped the bottom of the bumper on parking blocks.

ok so how does 5.5 inches at the lowest point of the front bumper compare to most cars like the nissan maxima or the altima, or the mustang or the pontiac G6? Is there a real big difference?
