That hurts. I know the hospital closed a while back with the Children's hospital but that's where one of my kids was born and where we did most of our care.

300 jobs lost too.

Hopefully a non-Scott & White entity snatches them up and allows them to reopen their doors. My family and I get care there and after several issues in dealing with S&W I will never go back. That leaves Wellstone and Seton for now but they don't have as many services to offer in the immediate area.

We've had mostly good experiences with S&W but it's only been for major surgeries and dermatologist. My wife had 2 major surgeries this year and it was a good experience other than the outlandish costs. But that's why you have insurance.

We avoid them for the smaller stuff. Stick to Premier for any emergencies and we've kept preventative care and checkups with KDC.

Supposedly Seton is sniffing around. A friend works there. Because of the company that was going to bail them out of bankruptcy backed out she can't file unemployment. Single mom, 2 kids, deadbeat dad, barely getting by. I know there's more to the story and I'll probably hear it soon.

Edit for Seaton to Seton. Oops.

It's actually cheaper if you don't have insurance. Even the check in gal at children's told me that. And it is. A $34k surgery at Medicaid/Medicare rates is $14k.

Edit to add, I'm not on Medicaid. That's the rate my insurance pays. Then I'm half OOP.

Ours was $140k in surgery. Major foot reconstruction. $11k OOP. We carried the bare minimum ACA coverage for the last 5 years. So it was worth it. S&WHP tagged me back with a $250 bump in premiums next year though.

Jokes on them though because I can and will drop them without the mandate.

And it's gett harder and harder to drop them with their monopoly, at least on clinics and hospitals. Not necessarily health plans. I despise them and their health plan.

I've had nothing but good experiences with the hospital itself. Our podiatrist was a fantastic dude.

The health plan can go kiss a pig. I'll call and cancel next week and I can guarantee they won't do a single thing to keep us.

I loved my dads heart, cancer (prostate) and orthopedic (knee replacement) surgeons and my daughter's orthopedic surgeon (he left for dell, but we can still see him) but the admin are some selfish sob's. Calling folks for donations because they're non profit. My pcp left too. He moved to Wisconsin and I haven't found a new one. I feel bad for those that the health plan is the only thing available. I'd go without.

Finally did the deed and dropped them. No resistance or desire to retain us at all.

What are the issues with their health plan?

There's a lot of things they'll fight to not cover, especially out of network stuff. We've never had that as an issue though.

We've had a clerical error where they charged us early from an account we only keep money in for bills before we refilled it. They dropped us entirely without a call or letter then tried to charge us a surcharge to get it fixed. Finally got a manger to fix it and admit they charged us incorrectly.

When I called and hit the button for cancellation they dropped my call 2x. I had to hit the button saying I was calling about a change to my plan, get somebody on the phone then get moved over.

Go read their yelp/online reviews. I get nobody loves their health care but it's pretty scathing.

Update on a few of the Physicians.
OBGYN's Dr. Sosa and Dr. Carpio-Solis are now with Wellstone.
Ortho Dr. Caperton is with Seton in Georgetown I believe.
Seton out of Austin is buying the KDC clinic and is supposed to be employing some of the PCP's and specialists who haven't found other employment.
