This is for all of the former Temple High School students or current fans out there. The high school is wanting to call the girls athletic teams one name, either Tem-Cats or Lady Wildcats. I thought when I was in school ('94-'98), the girls teams were Tem-Cats. I did not hear about Lady Wildcats until last year. I prefer Tem-Cats. There is a survey on the Temple ISD website you can vote on. Girls Volleyball, Basketball, Softball, Track and Cross Country are labeled Tem-Cats. Girls Soccer, Golf, Tennis and Swimming are labeled Lady Wildcats.

Depends on if you prefer tradition or a normal mascot. Or you could go with:
she- cats
cat-women (as in batman)
cat-ladies (as in the old woman down the street)
cat-fight(ers)
eye-ball-scratcher-outers

I voted TemCats over the summer when this poll first came out.

Many of my students are TemCats and deserve my support.

They are successful and work hard. They deserve the name they've always had.

Tem-Cats to stay. However, this is very "Aggie-esque" to me anyway. From the outside you can't understand it, from the inside you can't explain it.

I agree State. I felt like they are trying to mess with Tradition.

Janag- Where did this start? Did it start with the soccer program? I went to a game last year and they had Lady Wildcats all over the field. That's when I first noticed it and I asked my wife about it. She told me there were people that were trying to change the name.

I'm pretty sure it was in both the soccer AND the softball programs that this started. (I'm not 100% sure I'm right on this, but I THINK this is correct)

Coach Sanders wanted to maintain the TemCat name for girls' basketball, since she WAS a TemCat, but it's my understanding that the other two wanted to be Lady Wildcats.

I say that, and to be honest, I really like and respect the two coaches who were ok with changing it, but I TOTALLY don't like the move they made. It's one of those things that we agree to disagree on.

I don't understand why they can't simply be called the Temple Wildcats. The will already be identified as female under the Girl's athletics label/section of webpages, newspapers, etc.

Somehow the quote "From the outside looking in....." yeah... sounds about right.

Could be worse. They could pull some jibberish out of their butts and use it as their official nickname. In southeast Texas, the port neches groves volleyball team renamed themselves the "rock a noos", in the '60's I believe. It's their official name, despite the school mascot being the Indians. and it's players are sworn to secrecy as to it's meaning. I started a thread on the gulf coast board if you're interested.
