For the folks that might remeber what it is like, what are some good places to take somebody on a first date?

Depends on what you like. If you like Sushi, I'd suggest either Kobe, or Sakura ( I think that's what it was named). I've also heard Niko's (steakhouse) is nice. As far as bars, Utopia is very nice and they have sushi also. The poster known as Peter Gibbons could tell you more.

My first date ever was taking a girl to Snoopy's. Followed by some ice cream and a trip to the beach. She hung around for two years so it couldn't have been that bad of a idea!

Of course I was 16 back then and picked her up an hour late. Opps...

It all depends what you like to do.

Utopia is a yuppie bar/resstaurant. It's nice. If you want a small intimate place for sushi/drinks, try D'lounge on Staples. I think it's owned by Dat Nguyen's sister.

Niko's is a good steak house.
Mamma Mia's is good Italian.
Club 21 and Havana Club are nice martini bars downtown.
There is a comedy club in what's left of Sunrise Mall. Not sure of the nites it's open.
For seafood, I'd stay in Port A and go to Buelah's (or where it moved to on the marina) DON'T go for seafood in CC, but if you do, Joe's Crabshack on the T-head has the best atmosphere and Snoopy's has even better, but it's all fried food. Maybe not the 1st day kinda place. Granted you are coming from Port A, soooo...

Yardarm on Ocean has good seafood but no entertainment.

Dragonfly just over on the island on spid is good for food and if the tapas bar next door is still open it is good---haven't ventured over there since spring.

the knifings in cole park on sunday afternoon are nice.

Dragonfly has a menu that has chic food (salads, quises, etc...) and other stuff like steaks, seafood. I can only vouch for the bacon wrapped filet with the fried mashed potatoes. It's all I get.

MiMi's is a pretty good place, too. The prime rib and the seared tuna are killer.

You should go there next Sunday.

Sounds like graduates of South Park Jr. High. They used to have them at the park two blocks down from the school on Fridays. I only went once, and as the only white kid there, I quickly left.

Oh, yes, Dragonfly on PI. Great food. Get there early because it's ALWAYS crowded. Everything there is good.

Perfect Date:
Port A - start at Back Porch Bar for cocktails, heat to Pelican Club (formerly Beulahs)above Virginias for dinner, and then head to the Shark-tank for a little local color.

In town: definately Yardarm followed by drinks at the Havana Club. If its Fri, head across the street to Cassidys. If its Saturday go to 21.

Th Island - Dragonfly or Mimis, and then to Pelican or Lighthouse.

I would lean toward Port A. If shes ugly, stay local.

Nothing, it's just sitting there looking all dilapitated. Not sure when it closed, but it's been awhile.

It closed sometime in the early 90's, I think. There was a really good mexican food restaurant right there as well.

I know we ate at Gallaghers in 1996 because I had driven a friend (at the time anyway- never paid me back for anything) from Waco to CC for the Miss Texas USA at large pageant at a club called UBU on Ayers. Gallaghers must have closed within a few years after our visit.

The Venetian Hot Plate in Port A is pretty good if you want to drop a wad of money.

Lone Star Free likes Boat and Net because they serve hardhead tail just the way he likes it.
