Posted this on the Houston board, but thought my question could go here too

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm having a shingled patio cover tied into my roof sometime this year. My question is whether patio covers fall under Texas Windstorm Coverage...do I need to get a Windstorm Inspection during construction? Will not having an inspection get my claim denied should a hurricane level my house? The contractor who's work I prefer (houstonpatiocovers.com) made it sound like it wasn't necessary and never coordinated inspections, but he wasn't convincing enough. Any of you insurers, homebuilders, or those who've made windstorm claims that can help me out with your experience? I've already left a message with the local windstorm inspection office.

My home was built in 2005 and is located in an Inland II coastal zone of Brazoria County (w/in Pearland city limits) as defined by the TX Windstorm Insurance Association.

Call your insurance company and see what they say. I'd much rather have the paperwork and not need it than not have the paperwork.

he should have called TDI to inspect roof while under contruction. In order to get ur WPI8 (wind certificate) u will now need to get an engineer to come out and certify it. In this area it is around 300-400 bucks. If that patio is NOT certified....ins company is not responsible to pay for that portion of roof only.

some insurance copanies are requiring you to have WPI8...but one is absolutely a must if you have a policy thru TWIA....
