We have a house there, so I've never stayed in a hotel/condo, but I've heard good things about La Mirage, Executive Keys and Port Royal.

Some friends of mine found a GREAT house on Sandcastle drive. Sleeps 10. Fairly inexpensive. I'd check the links Peter Gibbons put up and go from there.

Port Royale, Aransas Princess.

We stay at Aransas Harbors Condos. They are by the ferry. They are not beachfront, but they are nice and cheaper than the beachfront. They have a nice pool and tennis courts. We have 4x4 trucks and take a cargo trailer with us to the beach. We can get up at 9 and be fully "set up" by 10. Then we spend the day enjoying the water and sun.

In terms of on the beach, Gulfshores and Grand Caribean (sp?) are one the beach. When I say on the beach, I mean a balcony facing the beach and the condo itself is about as close as you can get to the beach. However, the rooms are pretty expensive (around $275.00 per night). My family has stayed in Gulfshores each of the past six years. We like it because it is on the beach and has a nice pool. The rooms are nice but certainly not fancy. We are actually heading down on Thursday with about six other families for a long weekend.

Port Royal, kids love the giant pools. We'll be there week after next come rain or more rain.
