Oh, I almost forgot. I'm from the elite crowd - Lake Jackson!

Actually, elite implies "rare" ... currently B'wood folks outnumber all others on this thread.

Yeah, we call A&M "Brazoswood North Campus" by now. I see people from b'wood all the time. While I was there when we went 1-9 in football freshman year, 2-8 the next, 5-5 junior year, and made playoffs senior year. Must have been that class of '03

PA Lincoln-1987

Port Arthur - Thomas Jefferson.
It's been renamed Memorial because PA could no longer support three high schools. Sad that instead of just going back to the first high school in PA and keeping all the traditions, the school board in a fit of political correctness, decided to not offend anyone, by closing all three HS's and open a new one on the TJ campus.

LOL.

The only high school in PA that was holding up any weight was Lincoln. TJ's only claim to fame was for events that occurred during the early 80s, and even then it didn't result in a State title.

If anything, PAISD should have consolidated TJ & SFA and left Lincoln alone to continue its athletic tradition of actually winning championships and producing professional athletes.

There's no way in hell PA could have kept one of the schools and done away with the other two. WAY too many emotions tied into each school.

Pretty irrelevant, since no one on here has claimed B'port as their alma mater.

Where do I begin? Care to list more than one player the past 50 years from TJ to play more than a single season? The following are players who played profesionally since Joe Boy departed PA Lincoln.

1. Tim McKyer--SF 49ers*
2. Ronnie Leopold--SF 49ers*
3. Shockmain Davis--NE Patriots
4. BJ Tyler--Philly 76ers (NBA)
5. Charles "Chuck" McElroy--Chicago Cubs (MLB)
6. Marcus Price--Jacksonville Jags
7. Jordan Babineaux--Seattle Seahawks**
8. Jonathan Babineaux--Atlanta Falcons**
9. Stephen Jackson--Indy Pacers***

*Won World Championship
**Current Player

Hmmm. And here I was thinking traditions that mattered. Like academics.

Sure you were, that's exactly what your initial post stated or maybe yet, implied. Whatever. TJ had been withering on the vine for decades.

I see you edited your post.

Exactly what academic tradition did TJ have, someone winning the local spelling bee?

What Nobel prize winner graced the halls of TJ? Let me guess, the same number of men who have walked on the sun.

People like you are quite amusing, in a pathetic sort of way.

I edited my post to add the word "that mattered'.

Perhaps to you, and others, it matters that one can play football or basketball well. But to me the traditions that mean more are a schools overall GPA, graduation rate, National Honor Society induction rate, College graduation rate. The kinds of things that will help many more students make something of themselves, than the minuscule number of HS athletes who have pro careers.

Spoken just like a true nerd (or wannabe) who did nothing else but study in high school. Apparently you got your lunch money taken too many times by athletes.

FYI, some of the athletes I previously listed graduated from schools like Notre Dame, tu, Iowa, etc. Exactly where did you graduate college? Obviously not A&M.

Jeff Bergeron was better than Joe Washington.

Sure, that's why Bergeron was a 2 time college All-American, was voted into the collegiate Hall of Fame, had a lengthy NFL career and won a Super Bowl.

You guys are too funny.

Hey, we are talking high school here, not pro career.

Are you old enough to remember Jeff running Joe down from behind? Joe damn near killed him kicking those huge legs after he caught him, but he ran him down from behind.

Jeff was a beast, the equal of Joe back then. Some good showdowns indeed.

Hey G15, not much! Just another lazy Friday night here in CS. Contemplating studying for my 2 physics tests next week, but most likely won't till Sunday. Thankfully it will all be over Wednesday and we won't have to go out to Blinndergarten for a long while. You heading down to LJ after finals?

Hey, we are talking high school here, not pro career.

You initial post surely didn't make that fact known, it merely stated Bergeron was better. On second thought, you couldn't have meant college or pro since Jeff the Jet never made it that far.

The fact that Bergeron ended up a nobody after his PNG career speaks volumes as to who was really the better back. While he was indeed a great player at PNG, there is a reason Joe Boy has all the accolades. Bergeron appeared to have been a great system back, whereas Joe Boy excelled in whatever system he was placed in, whether it was the multi back set at Lincoln, the wishbone at OU or the pro set in the NFL.

Why don't you do this--talk to any football coach (college or otherwise) about Joe Washington and the instant reaction will be to sing his praises as one of the best backs they have ever seen on the high school level. Then ask them about Jeff Bergeron and their reaction will be to look at you with bewilderment and ask just who is this Jeff Bergeron.

This board is filled with little kids. Us old farts just hang around to see them make the same mistakes their elders did (we did them more spectacularly, I might add ).
