I am heading up to Galveston this week for a couple of days to take the family to see the Moody Gardens Festival of Lights. My kids are 2 and 5 years old. Any other activities you recommend/suggest for this week or this time of year? Thanks.

I'm not a fan of Galveston. There's not going to be much to do at this time of the year outside of Moody Gardens. The typical answers you'll get will be Kemah or the Strand. Schlitterbahn has an indoor section that you may want to check out though I've not been.

There are several attractions at Moody Gardens. I would look into the aquarium, discovery, and imax.

Your 5yr old would enjoy dinner at the rainforest cafe at 51st and Seawall. Extremely kid friendly.

Go to LaKings on The Strand- even with cold weather it is a place kids love, and they probably serve hot chocolate at the coffee bar.

Eat lunch at the restaurant at Pier 23--food is inconsistent but I like the views of the ships and the drilling rigs in the harbor.

I think the Offshore Platform display is reopened--about 19th St and Strand (actually the harbor).

The 1900 storm narrated show--kids are probably a little too young but is a good 1/2 hour for adults.

Ride the Bolivar ferry across & back--free. Often see some dolphins (Porpoise), always Sea Gulls & Pelicans and big ships.

Lone Star flight Museum--great collection of WWII planes and vehicles (haven't been since the storm-but it is open)

I've never caught dolphins on any of the ferries I've ridden.

Saw some this past Sunday.

I see a bunch on the bridge to Pelican Island (TAMUG).
