A former Corpus Christi Sunday school teacher got her Hollywood break chasing three momma's boys.
Cara Elizabeth Quici, 23, a 2003 King High School graduate, is one of 32 single women vying for one of three bachelors in the NBC dating series "Momma's Boys" that premiered Tuesday night.
The show's producers, with Ryan Seacrest Productions and Glassman Media, say viewers will see intense, emotional showdowns and rivalries, and raw personal moments between mothers and sons as the women -- some classy and some brassy -- compete for the bachelors' interest by gaining their mother's approval.
"I'm not classy or brassy," Quici said Wednesday.
The dating show is a big break for her because she doesn't have to portray someone else, she said. "It's prime time, and it feels really good to be myself."
Quici is a former Methodist Sunday school teacher who wrote in her NBC profile that God and family are the most important to her. She calls herself "a bit free-spirited," and wants to be a philanthropist. "I believe helping others is the most important thing God has intended for us to do."
After moving to New York City, the day after high school graduation, she landed work in a Manhattan bank that sent her to school to learn to guide others in investments. After four years selling annuities, Quici moved to Los Angeles, where she's taking piano lessons, learning Italian, and living lifelong Hollywood dreams, she said.
Her mother, Mary Quici, 53, said she hopes her daughter is doing whatever is making her happy, although she doesn't hope her daughter wins one of the men in the program because she is too young to settle down. "Cara's done all this by herself with a lot of personal drive, and it is incredible."
Singing on the show has opened other doors for Quici. She recently recorded her first song, "As We Live," and is working with producers on five others.
"I just want to make Corpus Christi proud."
