heading to galveton this upcoming weekend for a conference. anyone know of any places that are open for business that dont involve drinking at the hotel bar?

Basically the Seawall is now the place to be. Most restaurants there have opened back up and Moody Gardens is taking visitors again as well so there are places to go and things to eat/drink.

Visiting soon myself. Are there any areas to stay away from or suggestions for those visiting?

The Galveston Police Dept has done a good job of keeping the peace save the Brandon Backe et al fiasco. Just keep to the seawall bars and you will be fine. Places that I know are open now are Landry's, The Spot, The Float, Capt Jacks, and Saltgrass. Your best bet for atmosphere will be The Spot or The Float. They are both Galveston owned and your business will be appreciated.

BB shouldn't have tried to play negotiator. The police come into a situation not knowing all the details and having to sort them out. Last thing they need are drunks trying to "diffuse" the situation.

I'm not going to defend BB. I lived with his brother in college. I've known them their whole lives. I'm sure BB got way to close to the situation. However, the cops went way overboard on this one. The pepper spray incident was totally uncalled for. Even though Matt Goodson is a horn he is still a good kid. No one deserves to be treated like that. I know a lot of people that were at that wedding. Everyone has said the same thing. The GPD rookies overreacted.
