Are not getting the free housing that was assured necessarily.

Apparently they are going to evaluate each case and let the student know how much they will have to pay in rent. Several factors going into it.

Other issues include...The Sailing Club in College Station originally wanting to charge the Sailing team from Galveston for use of their boats. All but 1 boat was lost in the storm in Galveston.

Many classes are in the evenings, and at the Wildlife Fisheries building I believe, you need access on your ID card to get in. This was supposed to have been set up, but was not when people from that department said it would be unfair to give access to these students when students majoring in Wildlife do not have access after hours.

A load of crap.

Instead of Aggies Can I would have rather seen them asking for donations for tamug students and faculty impacted by this storm.

They are our own.

I work for TAMUG and I can tell you: rest assured that these types of issues are not being ignored. TAMUG administration is consistently monitoring all activities in regards to their students.

Agski, have you heard of these issues to back up my story?

Not really but the sailing team thing wouldn't surprise me. TAMUG students have always been viewed as inferior in the eyes of their College Station kin.

I know housing has been an issue from the get go. I helped the administration out when the transition happened. Bedlam is a good word to describe it. They put is in the General Services Building off of Agronomy and Welborn in 4 cubes and 1 conference room. 20+ people making this transition happen in 5 rooms. No privacy, no facade -- it was a nightmare. Several of us worked til around midnight some nights getting classes and housing worked out.

Initial announcement was that we were moving them at no cost. You report rumors that say students are having to pay. My guess: Students that had on-campus housing are living cost free. Those that fought to get off campus are suddenly realizing that the people they're bunking with aren't willing to pay for their food, their portion of utilities, or rent.

My opinion (everyone's got one, right?) is that this event is like a sunrise on the lack of connection between TAMU and TAMUG student bodies. When we asked for students to volunteer to share their dorm rooms with 1 more person we got an initial 25 responses. How many live on campus? Around 8,000 if I'm not mistaken.

If anything you've heard is true Jag, I certainly wouldn't be surprised.

Thank you.

I have slightly vested interest in the matter. Fortunately, most of the problems are avoiding my interest.

I'm a TAMUG student, I've heard most of these things as well. I heard that the trouble with boats was with the Crew team not the Sail team. I heard that TU is letting our guys use their boats for free. Not sure if it's true or not.

I think I've decided to get an internship next semester and let everything chill out for a semester in Galveston before I go back. I've also heard, from a fairly credible source, that they are starting to think that they won't have TAMUG's graduation in Galveston this semester as they promised. Which is a bad sign for the promise they made about being back in G next semester.
