Until now I've been pretty happy with their service, as it was fairly self sufficient. Now that they've cut our gas and I'm trying to get it reconnected it sure is a hassle. They won't tell me when they can come out, only that it's within a few days and that someone has to be home when they show up to get it turned back on.

That's tough to do when you have 2 working people in the home. Who's going to take off 3 days from work to wait for the gas guy? I wish they'd be more able to at least give me a day to shoot for so I could then plan around that.

Has a plumber been out to inspect your gas line pressure? We have to have one come out, our meter was completely submerged and TexGas won't turn on the gas again until the inspection is complete and reported. It's costing us $185 bucks just for the test/inspection.

Do you know if Texas Gas will replace the meter a their own expense or is that something else I'll need to shell out for?

Turn on your own gas. Worse case scenario they come out and see the meter's bad and pull it. Just turn it off at night while your sleeping or gone, until you feel there are no leaks. Since you didn't get flooded, odds are your gas is fine.

I tried to get it on, I couldn't do it. I don't have a cheater bar and my 6" pipe wrench isn't getting the job done.

Yeah, Texas Gas knocked on my door when I was down there today. They came in, turned my meter on and then went so far as to turn the gas on to my appliances and even light the pilots.

Pretty impressed, I must say.

I think the gas company will always light the appliances. SInce so many people now-a-days don't know what they're doing, its just safer that way and really covers their arses.

It's ok, not everyone was blessed with a 12" pipe wrench. Someone will come along and take care of the work your 6" wrench couldn't. At least you have electric. I'm the last house off our particular transformer/line fuse, so who knows when i'll get power back.

After a week and a half I went to it myself again and finally got it turned. Hot showers are on me tonight.
