It's amazing that it can DESTROY everything, and then skip one house. As nice as it has to be to come back to that scene and find your house standing... imagine the look on your neighbors face.

Whoever built that house can make a mint on building homes near the beach.

As a BOI it pains me deeply to see what has happened to my hometown.

I've been to Bolivar over a dozen times for a week long stay. Go there with my inlaws who are from the Golden Triangle.

We have great family memories there and it pains me to see this. Nothing like getting up early and driving to the Big Store to get your newspaper, reading it on the deck, sweating outside during the day on the beach, then heading to the Stingaree for ice cold beer and fresh seafood. My family was there exactly 30 days ago.

That said, I'm not surprised at the devastation in fact I'm surprised that there are still some structures standing. We were there in 2005, 24 hours before Katrina hit New Orleans. As we stood and watched the raging surf that Sunday before we left, I stood at 5 ft. above sea level, looked around and imagined what it would be like if a monster storm hit the place with a huge wall of water. Nothing to stop it.

Never imagined it would happen during my lifetime but here we are.

I feel horrible for the people who lived there. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone. I had no idea it was that bad.

that just sucks to look at. i have lots of friends w/houses there were out there & some people my parents work w/lived out there.

its just incredible that everything is gone...even the grass.

Crystal Beach?

My god that's unreal. I have so many good memories from taking trips over the weekend for a week or two over the summer there. I still can't believe most of Boliver is practically destroyed....

Was at my home on Bolivar last weekend and it was one of the best all season. I'm going to miss it.

That is actually Gilchrist. That yellow house was located RIGHT behind the Baptist Church there. It was about 2-3 from Rollover Pass. My house was located diagonally across 87 from the large slab on the right side of the road. It's just amazing to see how you can leave your home one day and then the next day you have absolutely nothing left.
