I know that it is very doubtful but if by chance there is one of you out there that can post via Blackberry or such, please let us know. People here have questions they need answered about their homes.

Not expecting you to go to everyones' houses, but if you are in the area, we would appreciate it.

The manager of my condo stayed and rode out the storm. His Blackberry was getting text only as of yesterday morning. Has not gotten anything today. Communication is very limited, maybe even completely shut down.

Thanks for the update Snake. I don't live there but a whole lot of my family does, including my parents. I'm just trying to find any info I can for them.

And I know for sure FairwayAg, McInnis, and several others on here who do live there would appreciate any and all updates.

Thanks in Advance to any and all info and help.

Just in case anyone is in these areas, my folks live at 46th and Woodrow and my brother lives at 41st and R 1/2.

An update to the general area would be great.

I'm a student at TAMUG, I live on the west end... I'm scouting the internet for images so I can figure something out. My mother just said she saw a flyover of the island on MSNBC, I'm checking their website now.

I will hook anyone up who can go visit my home with a case of beer or whatever they want within reason if they can get a visual on my casa and see if the water got up to it.

Ag_B_10 and McInnis,

My dad and brother are in downtown Galveston cutting some trees and helping clear things out down there. I've asked my dad to swing by your neighborhood and report back with water line and damages. I'll let you know as soon as I hear from him.

Also, my step dad's office (the Allstate across from HEB on 61st) got five feet of water. The entire office is ruined. So that area got quite a bit of water. Don't bother trying to make your claim at the office if you are an Allstate policy holder.

If there is any word on the Campeche Cove area I'd muchly appreciate it, I heard that the seawall down there had some damage so I'm worried.

Fairway, I'll be in your debt if your dad is able to stop by. I sent you a PM with more details on the location.

The hope your offer provides is very easing to our stressed out hearts.

Not on the island - but my wife's whole family lives there, so here is what I can report:

Gulf Village (Stewart/61st) - at least 4 to 5 feet of water inside houses (but has drained)

Strand & 13th - at least 8 feet of water (one family member has a first floor apt and the water mark is at the ceiling, the other has a raised house (about 8 feet) and the carpets were wet) - mostly drained

46th & R 1/2 - 3 foot raised house - water came up to the door...no water in the house (therefore this is the house where all the family that stayed is bunkered down now)

That's about all we know now. Feel free to fill in other areas of the island if you know anything.

Anyone hearing anything about a date for re-entry?

They said UTMB was priority one for power and that would take a week. Tge causway has some damage possibly and they don't want to let people come back until power is restored, which may be a month.
McInnis 03

Waiting for power is extravagant. People can survive without power, it's the water and sewage we absolutely need to survive.

They can't hold us out for 4 weeks, people will surely start to riot.

they can replace the causeway with ferries, so that is a low priority. the poster above is right, water is a priority. You wouldn't believe it watching the crazies on the news, but you can survive without power. The crazies on tv just need to be patient.

The Galveston County Sheriffs office just siad that 25 of their officers lost their homes. Didn't give any locations.

There has to be something that the citizens can do to demand to be let in. People can't let their homes mold while the city gets their crap together. The city is not going to be the one to clean up people's houses, the owners are, so they need to be let back in. If you have a Galveston address on your ID you should be able to get in if the roads are clear. Any ideas.

Channel 13-reporter just mention Galveston Residents need to register with FEMA for the Hotel and Apartment programs. I think the infrastructure is worse then it seems.

McInnis 03

I registered but then it said I did not qualify for FEMA assistance.

I'm guessing it had to do with either the fact that we have insurance or the fact that we have an income level that is above the median.

Info/request.
Got word from residents at UTMB. Fema/Army is taking over all operations at hospital. Residents were sent home. Most houses in fish village (where many residents live) had water in them. Substation that powers UTMB has to be completely rebuilt (~1 week per a centerpoint contact)

Any word on area from 13th and sealy? I live right there by Sacred Heart on Sealy.

do students qualify?

My mother swears she saw a flyover shot on MSNBC today where Seawall was caved in, anyone else see this?
McInnis 03
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I think what your mother saw was something I saw as well. At the very west end of the Seawall, where it terminates, it goes into a downward ramp all the way to the sand/water. That was where it caved in, that downward ramp, not any main part of Seawall that is actually traversed.

Just Wait! Crews haven't even moved across the whole island yet! At least let them asses the damage, restore water and power, and clean the roads before letting people back! The citizens would be in the way of SAR crews right now! Be Patient!
ConAg04

restore power? the media is being told that it might take 30 days to get power back on the island. The govt cannot keep people out of their homes for that long. The damage is going to be much worse if you don't let people get back to their house, because instead of just water in the house for a few hours, and then sitting wet for 3 to 4 days, you are talking about 30 days of it sitting? houses will go from cleanable to needing to be bulldozed.

they need to allow the citizens a chance to inspect their property so they can file insurance and get their lives back together.

There are a few blogs on khou.com that report numerous bodies in and around downtown that aren't being reported. Anybody have a clue as to the reliability of these rumors? Hope you that live on the island are okay. My Mom lives in fish village and it doesn't look good for her (she relocated to Waco). I've heard my house in Texas City is okay and power came on a couple of hours ago. Heading home tomorrow.

They need to finish search and rescue operations first. They do not need thousands of people on the island with dead bodies, impassable roads, no electricity, and no water.

My great-grandparents' house (long out of the family- it's been sold several times and is now a bed and breakfast) is at 1212 Avenue I. We'd sure appreciate knowing how it came through.

Good news for my folks' house. My mom just heard from her neighbor who apparently stayed there. He said their house is perfectly fine and had no water in it.

Their house is about 3 feet raised and is at 46th and Woodrow.
