What are you guys hearing down that way about Ike? I've been looking at the forecast models online and it seems more and more likely that the storm will impact Texas. Unfortunately, all I get here is Arkansas weather (blech) and I wanted to know what is really happening.

Dont know about yall, but living in Beaumont for the past two years I'm getting pretty sick of hurricanes. I almost lost my sanity trying to drive back to town with all the evacuation traffic after Gustav!

I trust our local CBS Aggie weather guy in Beaumont, Greg Bostwick. As of Sunday night, he still feels it will likely go in to our east in Louisiana. Of course, subject to change......
If I remember correctly, Greg also predicted Rita hitting Freeport when we all went to sleep on Wednesday and then woke up on Thursday morning with a mandatory evacuation called at 6:00am...just saying, those hurricanes can take crazy paths - just look at what Fay did to Florida.
I've been through many in my 48 years of living in Beaumont. Hate every one of them. I do not like the looks of Ike. No offense to those on the coast elsewhere, but I hope Ike does not come here. I have had enough hurricane damage in the last few years from Rita and Humberto.
even tho bostwick is an Ag, last week he said on tv, he guaranteed, 100% no chance of ike getting into the gulf. Between rita, humberto, and evacuating for gus., i`m tired of them. Hate wishing it on someone else, but its someone elses turn for a while. Way too soon to tell, but its looking a lot more like us here in bmt./pt.arthur/galveston.

I'm certainly worried. I live at the end of that line, mid-Galveston island. We should know more by the end of business Wednesday whether or not evacuations are occuring.
What makes me upset is the way Houston stations reported Ike on Friday. I heard something along the lines of "We don't need to worry about Ike because, historically, hurricanes in September tend to hit Florida." WTF.

Yeah, JUST bought a house off of 51st street. Figures the year I buy property is the busy hurricane year.
Good news: I work at TAMU-Galveston and they let us know pretty early when we need to get the hell outta Gtown. So, until you see the Sea Aggies fleeing we're in good shape.

Latest models have shifted west. I suspect the 4:00 track will move closer to the Victoria area. We'll see.

Sounds like a fun storm. Although, waiting for the latest HH flyover to determine if it still has maintained an eye-wall. Doesn't look like there is much to steer the bugger, either.

It seems like track forecasts have changed drastically this year from model run to model run. Does anybody really trust these things more than 2 - 3 days out?
I heard a rumor that Galveston will call for an evacuation on Wednesday. Anyone else heard anything? I was planning on heading to Austin early Thursday. May have to move that up to early Wed. to avoid the guaranteed traffic nightmare.
The latest computer models have moved south a little. Projected track has gone from east coast of Florida to mid Texas coast in just a couple days.
I would wait a day of 2 before making a decision--unless of course you can turn it into a long weekend!!

we`re leaving the beaumont/pt. arthur area wed. Thats the same thing rita did. showed moving a little more south and in the last 12 hours turned back north and hit us head on as a cat 3. This one has the same markings.
8:00 model runs moved much farther south.
this sucks for us.....been gtting pounded with raim....come one cool front

Unfortunately it's apparently going to hit Texas or Mexico. I hope it hits Mexico as a minimal hurricane because I lost my roof in Alicia and I would not want any of my fellow Texans/Aggies to go through that nightmare of being at home as the ceilings fall in.
not going to be that far south and not going to be new orleans. It`ll be galveston +/- 60 miles north or south.
Right now they have it pointed at Yarborough Pass!
It is currently on an eerie similar path to the 1919 storm, which hit on the 14th of September, 1 day before this one is projected to hit!
