Soon I will be out of the military and I will have my MBA, I was thinking about coming back to Corpus to start up a business.. either hotel or restaurant.. but the more I see and read about the city government, I'm not certain they are that business friendly. hmmm, what do you guys think? Thinking I might have to go near a more populated area, bigger city to just give myself that much more opportunity.

If you want to start a business, build a nice apartment complex in Kingsville, Texas. If i has the money I'd do it and be RICH. There is absolutely nowhere to live here and the Navy and TAMUK folks would flock to it like seagulls on a hotdog.

Not sure if Corpus could support anymore hotels or restaurants.

And apartment complex is in line with the kind of business I like... :-)

Who knows though, I have 3.5 more years with the Navy.. just getting my ducks in order now.

Gibbons is dead right. There has always been a housing shortage there and still is.

AS for CC government, it is not anti business, it is pro business; the hostile business environment is related to certain specific types of business in certain locations and it is a conglomeration of groups and individuals, none of whom are in the government but all of whom monitor it and rake it across the coals.

This principally relates to a few large scale promotions that needed the input of the local government in terms of zoning regulations and traffic control and tax breaks to help with raising finances.

THe city government is so cash starved that it will sign on with incentives for anyone that convinces it that it will raise property values that will generate more revenue.

Advice: don't try to do anything that would involve tearing up or shutting down access to a beach, tearing up a landmark or harming any wildlife, particularly of the feathered variety.

This area gets a lot of birders from all over the world and enviro tourism is ripe for making some money.

How about cleaning up North Beach and building a decent hotel there?

Nevermind. The local governenment wouldn't let you because you might somehow restrict all the bums from their God given right to keep the place nasty.

Build something in Port A, Kingsville, Portland, Rockport, etc. CC is very anti-development. You might make some money, and they can't have that.
