Staying in Galveston.

The only question is, should my husband go to work in Houston tomorrow?

There is no real reason to evacuate, even if it comes ashore as a weak 1 unless you have a special situation.

I would plan to not have power for about 24 hours at least if you are in the areas you mentioned, otherwise you should be ok. If no power causes trouble for you then you need to think about going elsewhere (ie: if you have young ones or elderly that need power assisted devices).

Have some food ready to be eaten out of a can and have some water available. Otherwise, this should be an easy one to ride out.

I'm sure my parents won't leave. My dad is crazy & stubborn. Granted, if it's expected to stay a tropical storm, I probably wouldn't leave either. That being said, the hubby was living in Jamaica Beach when TS Francis came in & got flooded out & lost power for a week or so. I'd just watch it closely throughout the day & make a decision based on what you think. I'll be watching it myself, but just so that if it looks like it's going to get bad I can call my mom & tell her to leave even if my dad won't.

Cram the highways!

No, don't evacuate unless your home is going to get flooded or it cannot withstand a cat 1 hurricane. Instead, be prepared. Have an emergency radio, extra batteries, flashlight, plenty of water, food that can be cooked or prepared without power. Have an emergency plan!

If you live on Galveston Island or in the bay, here's currently expected storm surges. If you can't handle that surge and Cat1 winds, gtfo.
