I've been through several direct hit hurricanes and I dont take them lightly, but while watching the news last nite I found it amusing that the city of CC was out boarding up windows in preparation for a Tropical Storm, not a hurricane (yet) that may not even hit Texas. Yes, better safe than sorry, but still.

The Houston News was freakin out too. They were asking tourists in Galveston if they were going to cut their vacation short, and talking to the mayor about evacuations etc. I live in Galveston, and we're just hoping it's going to rain some since we haven't had any in like three months.

The media is totally responsible for blowing this stuff up way out of proportion to the situation resulting in panic buying and needless evacuations (i.e. Houston during Rita).

But the hype did bring Jim Cantore to Port A.

Kind of how the news is blowing this out of proportion.

They make it sound as if a whole city block worth of wall has collapsed and opened the city up to the raging waters of the gulf. The funny thing is that it is not even the seawall that has collapsed. It is some of the rocks on the side of the ramp at 57th street.

I bet the surfers are having some fun in CC. Once the storm gets closer though, it'll kill any waves.

There were a few cars with surf boards heading south on 288 yesterday. I wished I was one of them.

It was a slow moving storm that could have changed directions---like Celia did.

Then you go to sleep thinking you are safe and wake up to find out there is a monster crawling through the window and it is too late to get away.

Hardly anybody around here has gone through one of these disasters because it is so long since one hit Corpus, I think it is a good idea to be alarmist

I can't believe this, but I agree with the old man. Better safe than sorry.

huisache - that is exactly what happened to our area when Humberto hit last year. We went to sleep being told it was a tropical storm and woke up to see unexpected damages from a sneaky Hurricane Cat. 1. Quickest hurricane to develop. Just our luck.
