Anyone else notice the cameras at the entrance to the national seashore? They take pictures of your license plates as your enter and leave the seashore. I asked the ranger at the entrance booth what they were for and she said "homeland security." I am assuming this is to somehow prevent drug and human smuggling.

The thing I really like about the seashore (besides fishing, open beaches, kayaking, etc...) is the laid backness of the main gate. At some parks like Yellowstone, they inspect your pass and compare signatures to your DL. At PI, you just cruise through the 2nd lane and flash your pass at the ranger.

Haven't been down there in a while. Funny to hear that. Been dying to get down to Big Shell/Mansfield Pass area.

They also take a pic of YOU in the car. If you notice there is a flash at window level to get light in your car.

They have a picture of me looking like gomer pile at the flash because I didn't know what the hell it was.

i like to wave at the camera. I was in glacier this past weekend and no cameras, yet you can easily hike between Canada and the US as there are hiking trails that go through the parks.

Having spent time and now currently living near the best beaches in North America, I think Padre Island National Seashore is my favorite. Not for aesthetics, but extremely tranquil and great wildlife.

Agreed. Just talking about wildlife from the beach, I can hardly go to the seashore without seeing deer, coyotes, or dolphins out in the water. Not to mention the birds and fishing!

things are getting worse at the Seashore! Last time I was out, not only did they take your picture, the navy was patrolling too!

I'm not sure that pic is of a ship in the gulf. I haven't been that far down the coast but that water sure looks much too clean to be the Gulf of Mexico. Just a thought.

Don't get your panties all in a knot Pro Sandy. I didn't say it wasn't the gulf just that I was sure because of the water didn't look like it. I also qualified it by saying I haven't been down that far. Geesh, some people are way too sensitive.

A few deer I saw a couple of weeks ago. The buck was along the beach and the does were on the road to Yarborough Pass.
