Ok...I am possibly moving to Corpus. Any help out there in terms of where to live and where not to live? Or if I should even move there? I am married and have two small children. I actually live in New Braunfels now so it will be hare enough moving away but want to know more about CC.

There are plenty of nice communities on the west side of town, just depends on how much of a drive to work you have. Even some parts of Flour Bluff, Portland, and Calallen would be good. They are a little further, but still not a bad drive given the freeway system in place there.

Get used to high winds most of the time.

What do you like to do?
How old are your kids. School district-wise, you want your kids to be in Flour Bluff, Calallen, or Gregory-Portland.

My oldest will be starting Kindegarten in the fall. I would be working at A&M Corpus. I don't mind driving as long as I'm not in traffic.

Live on Padre Island and have your kid go to the Seashore Learning Center on the Island.

FYI, there is no such thing as traffic in Corpus Christi.

What are you looking for in a house? Old? New? Do you want a newer subdivision or a more established subdivision?

My wife and I (and our 2 kids) just moved to Corpus from Austin. We decided on the older Del Mar subdivision area. So far it's been great. We are within walking distance of Cole Park, and our kids have really enjoyed being so close to the water.

My oldest could be starting public school in the Fall, but we've decided to keep him in private school and out of CCISD. So if you are wanting to do public school, then I highly recommend taking the other posters' advice about the outlying school districts.

Also, living on the island, is the insurance high due to possible flooding, hurricanes, etc...?

FF- yes.. on the island you will have to get flood as well as hurricane.. which will make it more expensive than what you were probably paying in NB. We just moved here and were far enough away from the water that we didn't have to get flood insurance, so I can't speak to how much it costs.

The Seashore Learning Center is on Padre Island across from the entrance to Padre Balli Park/Bob Hall Pier.

I went to High school at T-M, and the majority of Londoners came over to school with me. I will just say I have never met a more screwed up bunch of people that those from London. There ain't a whole lot to do when you got money and live out in the country when you are a kid but get in trouble.

What school doesn't have that kind. Don't judge based on a few.

We had a hell of a time finding a decent rental HOUSE in town. We ended up on the island because it was the cheapest place with a decent yard for our dog. If you want a good realtor that works hard for you call Kim Mcguire. The dude seems like he is into any and every money making scheme there is but he worked hard to find us a place when other realtors wouldn't even return our calls in looking for a rental.

I grew up on the south side and my mother still lives in Bent Tree. I enjoyed it growing up and there are some nice subdivisions there (Bent Tree, Kings Crossing, and possibly Buckingham). I don't live in C-town anymore, so the other posters probably have more insight as to the schools these days. However, I will say this- I went to Windsor Park Elementary and Baker Jr. High in the Athena program and I don't think there is a better education to be had in Corpus. I was accepted to an Ivy League school, as were several other Athena students. I just opted to take a scholly at A&M (over tu) instead.
