quote:
If the early reviews are any indications, Galveston golfers are in for a treat when playing the course.

“It’s hard to believe this is a public course,” said country music star Clay Walker. “It looks so natural, like it just rose out of the bay. It’s not a Disney World course. It’s like a Torrey Pines of Texas.”

Walker wasn’t the only fan of the course. Galveston Country Club Superintendent Jeff Smelser, who set the Moody Course record with a 72 on Monday, said he was especially impressed with the new grass on the course.

Part of the redesign was to reseed the entire course with paspalum, a grass that could survive the effluent water, which contain some salt, used for irrigation. The Moody course is the first in the continental United States to be seeded with paspalum.

“They did a super job on this,” Smelser said. “It’s hard to find grass that looks this good so soon after it was planted. It looks great, and I’ll definitely be back often to play.”

I was out there this afternoon chipping and putting and just checking the place out. It's absolutely beautiful. Pretty strict dress code to help promote a country club type atmosphere.

I played it the other weekend and loved it. It was pretty brutal with the 20mph wind and rock hard new greens. I love the new layout on the front. Having 3 par 5's and 3's makes it really fun. I can't wait until the greens mature. It is such a huge improvement over the old course / pasture.

Sounds cool.

Are the old f*rts still working there? Some of the rudest guys you'll meet. My family spends a week in Galveston every summer and I finally quit playing that course.

It seemed to be a real locals course.

played again yesterday in way calmer winds and shot 73 should have been under par but I couldn't get a feel for pitching into those damn greens

I've only seen one old guy (white hair forgot his name) back working there. Some 16 year old was trying to train him on the new computer system. That jerk off Russo is working over at the crap hole driving range on Stewart Road. The alcoholic guy that used to work on carts is over there too. I don't know what happened to that fruit Pat.

I couldn't be happier with all of the changes. Contemplating getting the annual pass thing.

Played there today. The course is beautiful and the fairways and greens are in great shape. A couple of complaints, though: they didn't have pin locations or a hole layout map. Made it very hard to play for someone who has never played there before. I was basically hitting blind shots all day. Seems like a basic necessity. Especially with green fees of $75.

Agreed. They definitely need to color code their flags for pin position and provide some sort of hole layouts. I noticed that the last time I played they added some pyramids by the tee boxes that just tell home long the hole is from the different markers. I think it would have been really nice to include the hole layout on those pyramids.
