I haven't been to Galveston in several years, and have been thinking about taking the kids there for the day on Monday. They are ages 9 and 6. What is the best beach to take them to? I'm looking for cleanliness, lifeguards, etc.

TIA

As a alternative to the gulf, you might want to consider the beach at Moody Gardens. It's not free but very nice and clean. Probably a lot more there to keep kids entertained. Check out moodygardens.com and click on the Palm Beach link.

Palm Beach is more like a pool/mini-water park. But it's definitely very fun for kids.

A lot of families like Stewart Beach because there are restrooms and showers. Costs a little bit to get in.

Otherwise, the beaches on Seawall all have lifeguards and all are about the same. A little seaweed right now but not bad.

Thanks for the replies, folks. We might try Palm Beach.

You'll find the best family atmosphere in Pirates Beach, but there aren't any lifeguards. Good luck with Palm Beach.

Take the kiddos to the county Beach Pocket Parks on the West End. It has been years, so I'm not sure if they have lifeguards. Do a search for Galveston County Beach Pocket Parks and you should find your answer.

No lifeguards on the west end.
