It's nothing like it was in the 90's.

I got five on the weed and fifty on the drank.

It is slowly dwindling.

It's no longer the Kappa Beach Party. It's Beach Party Weekend. They took their name off of it years ago.

Call it what you like but it is what it was.

OMG - husband, father in law and my son have reservations with a fishing guide that weekend - should I warn them to avoid the island or wait to hear what they have to say when they get back?

I wouldn't worry about it AggieMom, the event itself has dwindled to literally nothing and the island is more open than ever that weekend due to everyone else not coming down out of reputation of the weekend.

These people don't come here to fish.

Oh it's definitely still what it is. It's just that the fraternity took it's name off because of what it became. Once it got to the level it did in the 90's, they had to back off. But I'm sure it's still what it is.

Father in law is in the hospital with pnuemonia, so their fishing trip may have to be postponed. Don't know if just the husband and son will go. Son has an accounting test the next week and needs to study, and it gets expensive if only a couple go. Me & the other son will be in New York or we'd be going fishing.

It's not what it was by a long shot. The worst part now is restaurant and shop owners needlessly shutting down because they're scared and locals like myself can't go anywhere to eat. Oh, and the city needlessly diverting traffic so it's more difficult for locals to get around.

Maybe the shop owners and restaurants close down because the streets are blockaded and people can't get around

I'll never forget the Kappa in front of me in a convenience store asking how much one match cost, the cashier was like whaaaaaaaaat?

Funny. I remember traffic being so bad on 61st Street that four homies broke out a card table right in the middle of the street and started throin' bones. They would just move the table and start playing again.

Also remember a guy a few cars back that had to whiz. So he whipped it out and pissed right there in broad daylight.

Couple of years ago we looked out the front window of our house to see a guy pissing on the storage shed across the street.

Last year they tried to tow our truck from the Salsa's parking lot on Seawall. We were out surfing and see this big black guy standing on Seawall, waving his arms at us, yelling "They towin' yo ride! They towin' yo ride!" Thanks to him we got back to our truck before they were able to tow it.

This was my first Kappa weekend, highly entertaining!

Highly dissapointed! I ate outside at McAllister's Saturday and only saw 3 pimpmobiles.

A few years ago it was like a parking lot going down 69th.

I remember the first time they did this in the early 90s, a group broke the window of the Western Sizzlin (now Tortugas), just so they could get some chairs to sit on.

A few years later, they tried ripping the gas pumps out of the ground at my cousin's bait/tackle store (he owned it at the time). He had to go out there and stop them. His wife was so afraid he would be shot. He had to guard the place the rest of the night.

I got no good stories from this year's Kappa. It was pretty tame. I think Kappa is officially dead now.

Next year we can have a Beach Party celebrating the death of the Beach Party!!

I'll bring the bratwurst!
