Before Tortuga Dunes Development

If a hurricane came in this summer and flooded/wiped-out their progress, I wouldn't shed a tear for those greedy *******s.

But then again, look at that Holiday Inn just down the beach... The channel was built for things just like this. That's why I voted against the dredging of the channel. They tried to claim it was good for the laguna but it was just a scheme to sell our beach to the developers. At least we have people like McCutchon fighting on our side.

If you want to get really depressed, go to a CC city council meeting and spend the whole day there and just listen to what happens. There are a couple of people on it (I wont mention leal's name out of courtesy) who are so stupid it is almost inconceivable that they can sign their name. Listening to the city manager try to explain where the money comes from to these bozos is enough to make a grown man cry.

Some of them do not understand the basic structure of city government and so they have to ask questions that I learned the answer to in high school civics several decades ago.

Then they don't seem to understand the answers. If I worked for the city I would quit. It is just horrible down there.

You guys willing to do something about it?

There are quite a few positions open for advisory board positions. See the local paper today.

I'd also be interested in meeting with you all to discuss island ideas as I am a board member for POA. Funny thing is...I never...ever...see anyone show up for monthly meetings. Just hear folks griping. FYI - Annual POA board meeting is next month.

We need educated, energetic people to run for gov't positions, boards, etc.

Most people are too busy fishing, surfing, t.v., etc.

FYI - I was surprised to see the development but am glad that something else (besides me) can generate tax dollars. Now we need fiscally responsible folks in leadership positions.

I'm interested in doing someting. I'm not a property owner anymore on PI so not sure I'd be welcome in the meetings.

I recently moved back to CC and I'm pretty disappointed, but not shocked by any means, by the way the city govt. is run. I wouldn't mind sitting on a board or two.

I've seen the City Council meetings on tv, taped obviously, and I'd like to attend one in person. I'm not surprised by how you describe them.

Peter,

The Council meetings are open to the public. They meet each Tuesday.

Agendas are on the City's website.

What type of stuff are you interested in/experienced with? That will help getting you appointed to an advisory role.

I have a degree in Geography/Environmental Studies. I've done longshore current studies. I'm schooled in Geology, Ecology, and Oceanography. Plus I'm an Environmentalist/Conservationist and grew up on the beach and worked for the Parks Dept. for many years.

I want to see the environment preserved as much as possible. But if there is going to be development, I'd like to make sure it's done correcty. I'd like to make sure people are held accountable for spending our money properly. I'd like to see the city consider the environment ahead of the dollar.

Peter et al...I have to believe development in this small section is inevitable, and really do not mind, as long as they keep their hands off of the National Seashore.

I may sound like a snob, but a lot of the element that hangs around the North end of the jetty are a bunch of drugged-out scum-bags that normally leave that area trashed. (I personally know a lot of those people and they are not nice) Maybe a little development will help clean the area up a bit.

You can pretty much write off the whole area from the jetties over to Whitecap off. Sheixsneiders (sp?) is starting 3 new developments there and donating 60 acres to the City for their use. The Island that a lot of people grew up with is a goner.

The question is not whether it is going to be developed...but will it be developed well...with charcter and the environment in mind...or a damn carnival for low-rent tourists.

Once again, the writing has been on the wall for a while....just leave PINS, Big-Shell, Little Shell alone!!!

I dont go to PINS, Big/Little Shell...I go in between Bob Hall and north of the north jetty, so that is my area of beach and i curse and flip-off Tortuga Dunes everytime I drive by them.

All Sheixsneider wants is to make money in a city he doesn't even live in. He could give two sh**s about our city, land, island, or environment, as long as he can put some coin in his pocket he's willing to "give" the city some land for their benefit, which is his way of greasing up the politicians and city leaders for later "favors".

He's going to come in, develop it, sell it, leave with a huge, fat bank account, and the city is going to let it fall to ruin like they do with everything else.
