Whats going on with the africanized "killer" bees? I heard so many bad things about them but now that they have been around Corpus for awhile it doesnt seem to be as bad as everyone first thought? Has anyone been stung? Any bad incidents/home bee invasions? I would like to hear from anyone, but especially anyone who has encountered the bees.

A man was killed in the valley last fall. The biggest concerns are that they are moving into Florida right now. I remember in the late 90s (97?)some city employees in CC were attacked. There have been several attacks in CC, usually people using lawn equipment. You can read about current news of the Africanized Honey Bees at this website.

They are still around...we took out a hive last spring at the ranch outside of Premont.

Thank you for the link, Pro Sandy.

Uncle N., where was the hive and how big was it?

The hive was in a old clapboard house on the ranch...I would say the hive was about 6 feet across. I think this was an old native bee hive that had be taken over by Africanized Bees.

We normally left the bees alone but they became too aggressive.

Did you use foam to get rid of em? Just curious as to what would be the best method incase I were to ever move back and I ancountered a hive.

Hope they didnt sting you too much or kill any of your livestock
