LoneStarFree,

the earliest I can remember for the building was a convenience store called The Hornet's Nest...I'm guessing this was somewhere around '92...

Hua Tai is nothing short of outstanding. When I was living just off Ocean a few years ago (while Teacher Wife '82 and B-1 83 Daughter finished school) I used to get take out from there once a week. It made great leftovers for lunch. their combo fried rice is the best I've ever had.

HiHo is great tex-mex food. They have the best Enchiladas in town. You can get 3 Enchiladas and rice and beans for $5. The cooking reminds me of my moms cooking

Hua Tai is in the HEB shopping center on Alameda, next to Marble Slab. I usually get the General Tso's or Imperial beef. Amazing.

I went to Ray, but Elva's is way over-rated. We ate at the Jalisco's behind Luby's for most of high school, but that place has gone to chit (its no longer a Jaliscos as well).

Burger, I know the old Jalisco's. We had about 5 mexican joints in the area we would eat at. Jalisco's, Recio's, Elva's, Moody's, and some place by the DQ at Doddridge & Staples that closed. Between Mexican and the burgers at Angelo's and Hamlin or Belaire, Ray was certainly not short on food!

Elva's is certainly overrated. Just the fact that we ate/eat at a place that disgusting and called it edible is overrating the place!

Panjos kicks ass as well, but they don't have near the beer selection that BJs does.

I lived in Corpus for one summer during college (stupid decision...I was young). Anyway, my boyfriend's friend had eaten at B&J's and was ranting and raving about how good it was. I thought he was a goof for being so excited.

We went soon after that and then I became the advocate that he was. It was so good. I don't get to Corpus much, but when I do, a stop there is guaranteed.

I am glad the pizza at the new B&Js is just as good as the old one. It was nice being able to have a party larger than 10 and not having to wait for a table on a weekend. The B&Js special, or which ever one has pepperoni, onions, and double garlic, is quite possibly the most amazing pizza I have come across.
