that's not saying much ruddy. you were playing against a team who's coach never won an outright district championship in 24 years
i played for jones and he was calling the same plays he began with in the 80's. what teams like longview, marshall, nac, etc would do would pass down to their new coaches RELs playbook. worked everytime. it sucked playing for him too

matt, i actually guarded the kid who died (brandon matlock?) in a game the night of his car wreck. turned on the news and saw clips of me and him in the game and thought it was pretty cool until i realized why they were showing it.
ya that was my soph year. his wreck happened a block from my house.
weird thing is that no one heard it on our street but once the sirens started going off we were all up and trying to find out what happened.
the next morning we were all at the hospital and it was pretty disturbing.
the team that year was awesome, but still didn't win district outright. they made it to the 2nd round of playoffs without matlock and jones royally screwed it up in that game. if brandon was there, we were all sure that 3rd or 4th round in playoffs was a for sure thing.
we won that game, but it was tough. i always liked going up against brandon, he was one of the better post players i would go up against outside of playoffs every year. he was always a nice guy before and after the games as well. y'all did have a pretty good team that year. whatever happened to spurlock? he had a ton of talent but didn't seem to have it between the ears.
i wasn't apart of it. they were mainly football players and some other guys who did come too our games. but im sure i know them and may even have been friends with some of them
edit: spurlock went to TJC after that and then was promptly arrested. he has been in and out of jail since and i haven't heard or seen him in quite a few years.
