Speaking of stagnant, backwoodsy, and uncivilized hillbilly hangouts.....then come to jacksonville or any of the surrounding villages that make up cherokee county. After a career in the military, we moved back to take care of the old folks but you can sure bet that one day we will depart from east texas and move to someplace just a bit more progressive.

moved back home because we wanted to raise our family in the same town as our parents (my wife and i are from the same hometown). also joined the family business. other than that, low cost of living and the slow paced lifestyle are the only other draws.

It is interesting to me to compare and contast this thread to the one linked below on the Panhandle board, similar in some ways however it seems they are more likely to want to return to their hometowns than the ET folks who have responded here:

Went to CS and loved it. Wouldn't mind being back. Moved to Houston for a job and hated every clogged road, small backyard, and road full of billboards in the city. Had to suffer through some long commutes downtown for a while.

Got married to a hometown girl, had an opportunity to work from home so we moved back home. We just got home from visiting her parents and have plans to go to dinner with mine tomorrow since we're catching up after a vacation to Mexico. Plan to go to the hunting lease this weekend to stay at the cabin we just bought and work at the lease.

If/when we have kids, we have two sets of grandparents within 5-15 minutes of the house and parents own and operate the best daycare in town. Wife is an elementary school teacher at LISD.

Wouldn't leave Lufkin for the big city unless I had to in order to make ends meet. We do things in the small town that I couldn't in "the city".

It all depends on what you enjoy in life. Best of luck to you.

I grew up in Lindale and I can't imagine anything worse that living there for the rest of my life. Even with Tyler close by, it is still the pits with all the small town politics, nothing to do, etc. CS is the best.

I grew up in Henderson. It's an okay place to visit family, but I wouldn't move back there. After I got married, we lasted a whole 6 weeks before getting out. I took a coaching job in Talco-Bogata just to get outof there. Of course, we only lasted there a couple of years before moving back to the best place on earth--College Station! Wouldn't want to live anywhere else. We love the small town atmosphere and big city opportunities. It's absolutely the perfect place to live!
