Anyone on here from Nacogdoches? I have a job offer right now that is on the northwest side of the loop. Anyone have any recommendations for neighborhoods (to look in or to avoid!), areas outside of town I might want to look into, etc.

Also, and this kind of ties into the first question, my wife is an elementary teacher and would be looking for school districts (or specific schools in NISD). Any recommendations there as well?

Looking at spending $180K-$220K.

Thanks in advance!

I grew up about 20 miles East of Nac, good town. As far as school districts, I would suggest living out of town in one of the smaller districts, Douglass, Woden, Central Heights and the living cost will be lower as well. If you are interested in building a home let me know I still have great contacts.

ohh and for the price you have available to spend, go ahead and get out of town, Crown Colony on the East side is about the nicest neighborhood(inside the loop).

basically steer clear any neighborhood not in the NE part of town. from there, look at colonial hills and neighborhoods off of appleby sand rd. or possibly reguet.

and do not work in NISD period! your wife will be miserable and then you will be too. definitely woden or central heights is the way to go.

Crown Colony is in Lufkin. Taking advise from one ag is risky at best. I recommend Douglas, Central Heights, Garrison, or Woden for your wife to work. If she is working at a school district your kids will be able to attend also.

Stay away from NISD. As far as places to live I second the Appleby Sand Rd. I just moved from Nacogdoches this Summer.

Where are you going to work?

Live in Crown Colony and drive everyday.

There are probably 20 homes available in your price range right now. Some even on the course.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm originally from Livingston so I know Crown Colony is on the south side of Lufkin, which is farther than I want to drive everyday. I really want to stay within 15 miles of the office.

We had heard and read similar things about NISD, but your confirmations help. It will just be difficult to find an opening in Central Heights or Douglass with them being as small as they are but you are right, if the wife isn't happy, I won't be.

Old Town Ag, I'd seen some posts of yours on the Outdoors board so I knew you lived in Nac. and was hoping you would chime in. I'm really looking forward to the move because it will only put me an hour to and hour and fifteen minutes away from my deer lease! To answer your question, I'm going to be the new Controller for Tex-La Electric Cooperative, Sam Rayburn G&T and East Texas Electric Cooperative.

Looks like we'll concentrate our efforts on Colony Hills, Appleby Sand Rd., Douglass and Central Heights.

If we can find out the builders of some of the homes we look at, do you guys know of any that we should specifically avoid?

We were also given the name of Ed Pool to use as a realtor. Any one have comments on that?

Thanks again guys!

Lots of building going on down Appleby Sands road. Good houses and good neighborhoods out there.

You will enjoy Nacogdoches. I will miss living there.

I have moved to Forney, TX. It's not East Texas but its not exactly Dallas either.

I grew up in two different neighborhoods off of Applebysand Rd. It is a great and growing area. I like the houses off of Raguet as well if you want to live a little closer to town.

As for as teaching goes, I would not go as far away as Garrison as others have mentioned. Woden, Central Heights, etc are better bets.

Appleby Sand road seems to be where all the new houses are going. My Uncle is developing a subdivision out that way. I think Spring Creek is it's name, the houses out there are in your price range.
