I'm going to try and keep this short....

After graduating from A&M, I went to work for a large insurance company and worked there for over 17 yrs. The company went through a lot of changes internally and the work environment became toxic. I no longer enjoyed my work and it got to the point of becoming unbearable. I had to leave. I went to work for a local roofing company as a project manager. The roofing company is a great company with fantastic leadership, but the industry is absolutely feast or famine. With the local competition, it has become harder and harder to land new jobs. It is much, much easier in a post-storm (hail) environment and our area hasn't seen a good hail storm in quite some time. I have always viewed this job as a gap filler. I'm hoping to begin a new career soon.

I have a wife and 4 kids and one of my sons (age 5) is on the autism spectrum. We have a lot of medical bills due to his weekly therapy. I hate to admit it, be we are really struggling to keep up.

If anyone knows of employment opportunities in or around the Tyler area, please let me know. You could shoot me a PM. I am currently on 100% commission with no benefits. I really need to get back to a guaranteed paycheck with a salary. Benefits would certainly be a bonus.

I would love to work with other Aggies, but if you know of any good opportunities with a solid company, I sure would appreciate you letting me know. It is humbling to post something like this as a 43 yr old man with a degree from A&M. At the end of the day, I just want to be able to provide for my family without the constant stress of struggling financially.

Thanks guys....

I know this is weird but I may know who you are (mutual friends). Degree, field preferences, etc.? Do you go to church anywhere that could help you find something? That's the first place I look.

Business degree?
First two years was business administration. I switched majors and received my B.S. in Biomedical Science. Another long story there....

Biomedical Science, I'm open to all fields depending on the opportunity. We were a part of a church for over 12 yrs., but recently decided to look around. We have been visiting South Spring Baptist Church and really like it there. We just don't know a lot of people yet.

Ok. I know some ags who own a staffing firm that also does professional placements. The number one problem they have when I send people to them is your response (and I get where you're coming from, so please know this isn't a personal criticism). I'm happy to refer but they're looking for people with focus: people who know what they want and are qualified for it. I've sent them a bunch of people who are stellar employees and good at what they do (such as managing 100+ employee stores for Fortune 500 companies) but they didn't want to go back to those fields. It's hard to place someone looking for anything with no background in jobs they're considering. I don't offer this to be discouraging but perhaps looking for something within insurance or construction would be good with your background. There are several guys with construction firms at that church and I know of a home inspector that is looking to retire in a few years. May not be fixed salary and good benefits but could be a good option with growth and more immediate prospects. There's not much available at my company that matches up with your experience.

What do you think of those ideas?

I completely understand where you are coming from and realize how difficult it would be for a placement firm to help out when you are lacking certain desired skill sets. The only way I'm going to find a good opportunity outside of insurance and construction would be to come across an influential individual who is looking to hire the "right person" over a great resume. The things that I have to offer are things you just don't put on a resume.

I would consider going back to insurance, but not with the same company and certainly not in the same capacity. Again, it would have to be a good fit.

I would also explore other opportunities in commercial construction although I don't really have experience there either.

To answer another poster, I absolutely would consider pharmaceutical or medical device sales, but from my understanding, it is very competitive and they usually seek those individuals with prior experience.

Gotcha. Well I'm sorry I'm not that guy. I have friends who have been hired as 'the right person' but recently I've seen them paid less since they're in that position (of needing something). One friend was hired and then got the company running well operationally, only for it to be sold and looking for a job again a year later. Another is doing very well managing a workforce and sales growth but has to fight for every raise and isn't making near what he did previously.

Where would you be comfortable in insurance? What types of roles?

We have a job opening for a buyers specialist on our Real Estate firm. Send me a message with your contact info if you might be interested. We prefer hiring people who have no background in real estate.
