My New Year resolution was to get my CHL but I don't own a gun and really can't shoot one. I had an ex who tried to teach me but didn't stick around long enough to really do any good. So, where is the best place in East Texas, preferably Longview, to get lessons and then, CHL?

Also, this may be a dumb question, but will I need to purchase a firearm first before taking any beginner's classes?

Lindale has a company called Freedom Defense Training. They have a website and fb page. I think they have prep training and CHL classes.

Go to a local gun store and ask there. Bet they've got a list of options/times/places/instructors. Most that I've heard of don't require you to have your own gun (they'll provide a few at the shooting part for you to use) but most people prefer their own gun because of their comfort level with the weapon, how it shoots, etc.

Longview has a couple classes in February.

There is a place across from the Walmart at Estes and I-20 that gives classes. I also heard that the Alex Azar from Longview Martial Arts does classes.

Work keeps me out of town during the week but I'm willing to help teach you. All you have to do is pay for ammo and range fees. Oh and I'm located in Tyler, and I have some experience with the administering of the CHL shooting portion.
