Any good recommendations for a steakhouse in Tyler? About 5-7 guys going for a bachelor party.

Any others with a lower price? I saw a Jake's Tyler and a Rick's on the Square that everyone else would be able to afford better.

I'm relatively new to Tyler so I'd be interested in this as well. I wouldn't recommend Dakota's. My wife and I went there and neither of us was impressed at all. It was lunch though. Maybe they are better at dinner?

I've lived here 8 years, and I would like an answer to this. Most of the time I want a good steak, I just grill it at home.

I used to like Jake's, but the past two times I've gotten a steak there it has been average at best. (I still like Jake's as a whole, I've just been disappointed by the steak the last couple of times) I can't stand Dakota's. Last time I got a steak at Rick's it was about 1/2" thick, and mostly fat.

Ordered a steak at Sonoma's, medium rare. It came out well done, completely grey throughout, so I sent it back. They brought out a second one which was also completely grey throughout, so I sent that back as well. This time the manager comes out with the second steak I had sent back and proceeds to tell me that you can't tell how a steak is cooked by looking at it, you have to bite into it to tell how it is cooked. I asked him if he really believed that, to which he said yes, so I just bit my tongue and said I didn't want it.

I have friends that drive to 4 Winds, but that's a long haul. Jack Ryan's in Kilgore has a pretty good steak, but again, that's a haul.

Also, Kiepersol for a bachelor party would be horrible.

Villa actually has a pretty good steak. They put Chimichurri sauce on it (you can get it on the side), but it's usually pretty decent. (I forgot about them since it's not a steak house).

Thanks Josepi. I saw a bunch of mixed reviews for Dakota's and was pretty sure I would avoid it. Outside of steakhouses, would there be any restaurants you would recommend then?

If I were hosting a group of 5-7 people I would go to either (in no particular order):

1) Villa Montez - I really like about 1/2 the menu, the hot sauce, and the drinks are good (It's not Tex Mex). As I mentioned before their steak (which is usually an off menu special) is good, and their carne asada which can be like steak if you are really really drunk. I had the ossobuco there once which was amazing.
2) Jakes - I like having dinner on the first floor (I hate the second floor), and then going to the roof for after dinner drink, or over to Rick's patio for after dinner drinks (or both).
3) Lago Del Pinos - This is a place I really want to like, but just can't yet. I've only been 3 times, and the food has disappointed every time. However, I like the atmosphere, and I really like the outdoor patio near the lake, especially if there is a band.

I agree on Lago. Great atmosphere, but food just let's me down every time. I really hope it gets better. Best steak house I have found in the area just opened in Kilgore called Jack Ryan's. The food is delicious, but make sure you have a reservation because it can be difficult to get in.

Lago Del Pino is a great place for a bachelor party and the food is wonderful!

Jack Ryan's is really good, but their drink prices are ridiculous. $8 for a bottle of Sam Adams seasonal kind of pissed me off.

Like the others said, Lago del Pino has so much potential, but the food is pretty blah. Wife and I prefer Villa Montez when we go out for a nice meal.

If you do go to Lago Del Pino, most of the food is decent but the Prime Rib Enchiladas are incredible! I highly recommend.

Glad you guys like Lagos venue. Worked really hard on that design! I am working on a new place that if it goes according to plan will blow that one out the water! Something Tyler hasn't ever seen... I don't know what the food will be but the place is gonna be freaking sweet! Can't really say much more than that and it will be in Tyler.

Oh and best steak in Tyler? shoguns
Best place for a bachelor party for 5-7 Time Out

I don't think anyone is arguing that 4 Winds isn't good. But the fact is that it is 53 miles from my house. I have no urge to drive 2 hours round trip to eat a good steak.

Ah heck, I didn't realize it was that far a drive from Tyler. (note: I'm usually driving from the Cedar Creek Lake area when I go)

Its alright Stive. Its not consistent enough for me to say yes or no. Kinda like the tale of two cities.. it was the best of steak it was the worst of steak...

I used to date a girl that used to work there a while back...... memories.

but like stated above they do have pretty good burgers

Sonoma has a few decent things on the menu, but the thing I hate is when they seat you at a window table. Cars pull into their parking spot, and until they kill the headlights, you feel like a deer in a spotlight.

I don't go to Sonomas for steak per say , but I do like their food. They have real good Salmon and Chicken dishes. A good mix of choices.
