Forget your over-built modern H.S. high rise skybox stadiums. Air conditioned, high back swivel arm chairs, carpeted, free VIP pre-game & game buffets, elevators and other perks.

Jacksonville's Tomato Bowl beats 'em all.

Rock staduim built by the WPA 1938-1940 still holds atmospherics of what a H.S. game should be.

Those hoity toity "keeping up with the Joneses" multi-million dollar monstrosities just ain't E. Texas football.

This message, I very much approve of.

Those old rock stadiums have so much character and are beautiful. Quitman is a small one that comes to mind, possibly no longer there, not sure.

I've been to or played in some others, but am not recalling where.

Lots of cool stadium pictures and info on this site.

Gig 'em, FAST FRED '65.

I approve as well. Played many a games there and all around East Texas back when Jacksonville was in the Dairy Queen District. Nothing even comes close.

Young folks need to understand the thriving tomato industry once in existence in E. Texas.

Thus, The Tomato Bowl.

I got an ass end full of fiberglass there once on the visitor side. Never liked the place from that day on.

Great cushion rental strategy for Jacksonville ISD.

Back in my high school band nerd days, we got treated like Santa at an Eagles game whenever we visited Jacksonville.

Overton has an itty-bitty version of the Tomato Bowl ... except it's 1/2 into a hillside, but the stands are made of the same WPA Iron Ore rock.

Does Overton still have a H.S. football team ?

Tenaha has one that always reminded me of the tomato bowl. Affectionately known as "The Pit." Standard WPA rock job. Much like the old gym in San Augustine

I was in Jacksonville last week and saw the sign for the stadium. Unfortunately, I did not drive over and take a look!

FAST FRED - thanks for the link

For those in the know, how old is the current Rose Stadium? I played in Tyler years ago and thought it was more of a Bowl.

this makes no sense at all. i can kind of see what you mean about being 1/2 on a hillside, but stands made of iron ore rock? maybe you have it mixed up with another stadium?
