Looking for a single rest. That has a room to hold 75 to 100. Tex Mex preferred but open to other options.

Thanks!

Not sure how there big groups are set up. But Mercados is my suggestion. Great food, atmosphere and located on loop near several hotels. From east TX originally and try to hit it up when I go thru on business.

Villa del Montez on 64 is in old Mansion, different kind of Mexican. Good atmosphere and they have lots of functions there. They have also opened a new deal out on Lake Tyler.

Owlag,

Thanks, you are right- we visited V. Montez and had dinner on recomendation a coupe of weeks ago. It was nice but for a group our size it was just a little too spread out being an old house w/ rooms etc. for a group our size. Looking to have everyone together for speaches and what not.

The idea for the lake location was mentioned but it seemed a little hard to find for a group of mostly Dallas, Houston, Austin out of tonwers.

We also really liked the upstairs room setup at "don jauns on the square" which we thought was perfect, unfortunately their management refuses to rent it out on Fridays ( though they will on other days...)

I dont think their original don jauns is of the same caliber of setting so they are currently not an option. I have spoken to the GM at Mercados and will be visiting it. We live in Dallas so we are trying to stop by as many as we can when we go through Tyler.

Please keep the suggestions coming, thanks!

The Cedars of Lebanon on Copeland is a rental place, and you could have it catered by many of the Mexican restaurants. Dont know the money. The big high rise (for Tyler) Holiday Inn has lots of rooms. There is Keipersol Estates south of town--sounds expensive do not know--but my wife's faculty ate there for a party--so teachers could afford it--do not know if they serve Mexican. food is great. Potpurri house has some rooms- I saw a High school reunion there once--cool atmosphere, and on Fridays you have old fart dancing (60s-70s tune though). They could cook you anything you want--and it is good. You could check it out without eating and there is a boutique there--sells Aggie and Sip stuff too!! It sits right by a Ramada, and Hampton and extended stay hotel. Electric Cowboy is a short walk for extended partying, but you may bring an over educated crowd there-but sometimes thyey have the same guys that come to the Hall

I don't know if you have ever been to Mercados, but coming from someone who grew up in Tyler Mercados is one of the WORST restaurants in Tyler. 75-100 people is big. My vote would be El Charro #2 (the one at 5th and the loop). The you can reserve the back room at little to no cost. My wife and I had our rehearsal dinner there and it worked out perfectly. Im not much help outside of thiIFC the only mexican food I will eat in Tyler is el charro #2, el lugar#1, and don juan's. If you want to get away from tex-mex, Bruno's is always a solid choice. The newer one is nice and it has a party room. Just don't go to Mercado's... It is terrible!!!!!!!!

You can rent the entire "grotto" basement at Villa for your party. You would all be in one place. You should check it out. It's a cool setting for a party.

Mercado's is ok, but it's pretty much just a typical Tex-Mex restaurant. Nothing special. If you are from Dallas, it is a definite step down from Papasito's. Villa is much more unique, and would leave a better impression on your guests imo.

The only people who love El Charro are people who grew up in Tyler. Everyone who moved to Tyler doesn't think it's that sweet. I'm not from there, and it doesn't make my top 10 Mexican places in town.

Thanks again for all of the rec's guys. The lady who is setting up the wedding also recommended some of these same suggestions, I think we are going to take a look at El Charro as well.

If anything else comes to mind feel free to pass along!

We had our rehearsal dinner at Villa Montez in the grotto. The atmosphere and service was unforgettable!! All our friends told us it was the best rehearsal dinner they have ever attended. We sqeezed about 50 in there. That room is probably too small for your party.

I grew up in Tyler and El charro makes me want to puke! Ugh, that place is bad, especially their 5th st location. Original not so much. I'd put Mercado's two steps above, that's not saying much.
Comeby!

You two are WRONG.

El Charro's is so much better than Mercados/Posadas.

However, Don Juan's is better than them all!
