Want to see an existing identical copy of the old Panola County Courthouse (in Carthage) ?

Go south to Center, Texas (Shelby County). Most unusual turrets in all of Texas courthouse architecture.

I really do enjoy driving through a lot of the East Texas downtown squares. Most are forgotten relics of past years, but some have done a great job of upkeep and luring businesses back in.

Not E. Texas but old courthouse in Decatur (Wise County - north of Fort Worth) is a gem. Almost identical to Ellis County Courthouse (Waxahachie).

For E. Texas you need to take a tour of the old restored Harrison County Courthouse (Marshall, Tx). Very impressive.

One thing Shelby County and Panola County have in common is that whoever designed the streets around the courthouses was a drinking man.

Want to see the oldest operating courthouse in the state...drive though Linden. Recently restored to its original condition.
