I will be there for work for a while. Any suggestions on places to work out, driving ranges & golf courses, and restaurants?

For working out, about the only place is the Court Club on N. University just off the loop.

For golf courses and driving ranges, once again, you don't get a choice. Woodland Hills is a public course with a driving range and it is south of town right on 59 b/t Nacogdoches and the Angelina River.

For restaurants, if you want to eat while watching a game, Union Cafe has a nice bar area and the food is pretty good. Better than just going to Chili's. Clear Springs and Auntie Pasta's are consistently good, better food than Union Cafe. The BBQ House and Mike's BBQ are both good. Mr. Will's on the east side of the loop and Hwy 7 has great, big greasy burgers. Szechzuan is best for chinese, La Carreta for mexican. Host of others up and down North Street.

If you are SFA faculty/staff/alumni/spouse of faculty or staff you can get a membership for the SFA Student Rec Center.

I grew up in Nac and our favorite place to grab lunch while we are in town visiting the folks is Stacey's Deli. It's on University in the Kroger shopping center. Their original or deluxe po-boy is amazing.

Lufkin is only good if you are a blue collar, redneck, wannabe!

If you want a quieter place to work out and not have to wait to get a machine or bench I would suggest UltraFit it has a lot of older folks in there but I tend to prefer it over the Court Club. The only downside is no pool or raquet ball courts.

Thanks for the suggestions. I cruised North Street my first night and located all the restaurants. I worked out at Court Club 3 times, and there were probably 10 people on average in the weight room. I am trying to cut weight that I gained on a cruise, so I did not eat anything too bad this week. I had Cotton Patch one night (Fuddrucker's had just closed). I had Mike's one time driving from Shreveport to Houston, and I thought it was solid. I will have to try a couple more of the recommended places over the next few weeks.

If you golf, join the piney woods country club. They sometimes offer some great deals. Like $100/month for all the golf you can play.
