I have family members moving to the Longview area for Work. Any advice on good safe towns to live in (including good schools) in the area?

In Longview, the best neighborhood is Wildwood. If you want to live out of town then I would recommend Lake Cherokee or Hallsville. As far as schools, Pine Tree, Hallsville, and Tatum all have pretty good school systems.

If your looking for a safe place to live stay north of Highway 80 and most areas are pretty safe. Good school districts include Spring Hill and Hallsville. I went to Longview High and it is pretty ghetto, I'd stay away from LISD. Another good option is private schools, there is several in the area and I went to trinity in middleschool, which is pretty good. Don't listen to the naysayers, its not a bad place to live. There is alot of trash there, but there is also alot of good people. The economy there is backed by old oil money and is still booming compared to alot of areas. I'll probably be moving back to the area in the next couple of years. Low cost of living, plenty of outdoor activities, and it's really a pretty area to live in.

Thanks all for the advice. What do you know about Gladewater and White Oak as a place for young families? Thank You again.

I spent the first 8 years of my life right between the two on Lake Devernia, which would probably be pretty cool place to live. I think most of Gladewater and Whiteoak is associated with the lower middle class, but they aren't too bad. I would probably shoot for springhill or pinetree if I had to live near that area.

I would definitely move to Marshall if I were you. I would definitely buy the house out at Shadowood listed for $249,500.

Wildwood is no longer the best neighborhood in Longview if "best" is defined by upscale and hasn't been for many years. If you make lots of cash and want to live with the rich crowd take a drive on out to Bar K Ranch off 259.

However, there are dozens of nice neighborhoods in Longview these days. Depending on which school district you want to be in you'll have plenty of options.

I grew up in Longview (Pine Tree District) and I can tell you the current hot school districts are Spring Hill, White Oak and Hallsville. This is primarily due to white flight. My parents moved to White Oak about 3 years ago and you can get get a damn nice house for cheap out there.

I can second Spring Hill School District in Longview. It is growing tremendously over there with nice, new subdivisions popping up everyday. I am a little biased, as I was born and raised there. It is pretty much an upper-middle class predominantly white school, so you will definitely have some of the hoity toity factor. But one nice thing is that it is a smaller school (3A), so it is easier to get to know a lot of kids if you move there. My class graduated 100 people back in 2000. I assume it might be about 150 or so per class at this point.

I wish...nah just intramurals. The only thing stopping me was that I was a 5'4 middle blocker. Why do you ask?

White Oak is the place you want to be. They are maroon and white and built on pride and traditon...Alot like A&M! They are 2A. Close to Longview for convience but still have a small town feel.

In that area, I definitely vote for Spring Hill. I graduated from there back in '98. It was a great school, safe environment, good people, and lots of good, clean fun.

Stanton--I saw your sister a few weeks ago at the reunion but didn't get to talk to her. How are you? I fondly remember lots of parties at the Webb's with you!

Oh yes, parties at the Webb's, good times. You're going to have to give me a better hint of who you are though.

We live in CS; Omaha is in reference to the Aggie baseball season and where we always hope to end up

By the way, sorry to take over this thread, but Longview people are great--gotta catch up!
